2:08 You get street view all around the US and Europe, and then you have us Germans who, for some reason, have a problem with their house being in a picture, which is why you have barely any street view there.
We love paperwork so much that we find problems where there are none and make laws around them.

What I find interesting, is the number of times that a ‘long’ windy road with no cross streets, has short stretches in the middle of its length (sometimes numerous of them) where there is no coverage. The vehicle obviously drove the entire length of the road, but chunks of the footage is missing. Is this just an indicator of how unreliable the equipment is?

Apple is catching up to Google Street view with is own version of street view. It’s got a very long way to go before having the locations Google has. However if you got Apple Device and the area you want to visit has Apple’s street view, it’s higher resolution and much smoother than Google Street View.

Thank you @Google for Streetview. I travelled to Svalbard near North Pole after I saw on Streetview how amazing it was there. Google had been using snowmobiles to show us the nature and places.

I’ve used street view often to check street signs whether I’ll be able to stop/park my car, especially in crowded downtowns where it can take a bit of preplanning to get around. Thanks Google!

Strange how he left out the scandal that Google was collecting private wifi data as it drove by. Somehow it was an accident that they didn’t mean to steal data. A “glitch.” 😂😂😂😂😂

I grew up in Mountain View during the time it started and would always be fascinated when one would pull up by my car. It’s pretty cool seeing their technology being tested when you’re out and about in the area.

I wonder how they cope with bad weather, if a storm starts or heavy rain comes over the car…. would this be a problem?
Also what about privacy? I understand people’s faces and license plates are blurred but still….basically Google View will see everything around the worldN you can’t have secrets anymore

Recently I saw that they now have sponsored places on maps. When you zoom out, they stay on there.
I reslly like the idea of maps becoming profitable, because that means they can make al those things like maps, streetview and earth better.

As invasive and sometimes even evil Google is, I really love their Street View project. I love sitting down and looking at the streets of other countries. Plus not only is it incredibly useful in the present when you’re planning a trip, but it’s going to create a fantastic history of the world as time goes on.

I also remember a time when Google Maps had angled satellite views of most places, and you could spin the camera around in 90° increments. That was quite useful as well. Unfortunately, they hid the feature several years back when they introduced the crappy blobby Google Earth mode.
