How does an astronaut prepare physically and mentally to launch into space? NASA astronaut Megan McArthur, who traveled to the International Space Station in April 2021 as part of the SpaceX Crew-2 mission, shares stellar life lessons on how to cultivate the resolve to do incredible things through preparation — and a dash of bravery. A rare glimpse at what it takes to literally shoot for the stars. (This virtual conversation, hosted by TEDWomen curator Pat Mitchell, was recorded in November 2020.)

I am sitting here comfortably, listening to this talk while shaving my legs. Can’t help but wonder how this is done in space?

I would think they go au naturel in space, and that’s why there is not that much skin exposed on board if they can help it. Small hairs floating around is not really a good thing to have.
Alternatively, maybe they do it inside a bag :p

It’s not, because no one has ever been to space.

I imagine breathing in the floating pubes of a Russian lady, who was on a mission 2 years ago, would cause for quite some panic.

We definitely need more women astronauts, engineers and scientists. Definitely inspiring to young girls everywhere. The sky is not the limit. There is a vast universe out there.

@Mk Why does there need to be more female astronauts, engineers & scientists?

    • Leftie Snowflake

      April 24, 2021 at 12:20 pm

@Rehana Khatun Yeah but half the world are not astronauts or scientists.

    • Rehana Khatun

      April 24, 2021 at 1:00 pm

      @Leftie Snowflake ofc not.
But we can consider astronaut or scientist(the professions) as a world where women should make up 52 percent as its the global population. 😉

    • Dzogchen Yogi

      April 24, 2021 at 9:59 pm

@Leftie Snowflake You wouldn’t want to breathe on one lung or walk on one leg. Why would you want a country to operate on half a brain? While the socialist countries in the 1950s were training engineers, scientists and doctors, the US was producing videos on how American women could “please their man” by wearing white socks and pink socks.

      April 25, 2021 at 12:33 am

@Dzogchen Yogi But countries are not operating on half a brain? The positions for scientists & engineers etc. have mostly been filled already.

    • Leftie Snowflake

      April 25, 2021 at 12:38 am

@Rehana Khatun Maybe most women don’t want to do those jobs & prefer other professions?
