Yeah and your eyes burning from the garbage lcd screen , as well as getting tired faster after reading. iPads are not e ink
@TJDawgs72
October 2, 2025 at 6:11 pm
Thinner when it comes to a tablet/E reader and note taker/drawing platform is not always better. One of the reasons why I use an iPad Mini and download the Kindle app instead of using a Kindle is because the Kindle just feels too small and too thin in my hand. But when I use the iPad Mini, the screen size and the thickness of it feels natural, like I’m actually holding a book…or close to it.
@georgewashington3012
October 2, 2025 at 6:11 pm
The value proposition is a complete joke relative to the iPad. Kindle devices are more expensive than even the basic iPad and yet massively underperform in terms of capabilities. If kindles’ only hat trick is a screen that’s optimized for outdoor use and a long last battery, that isn’t nearly enough. I’d consider these at $199 or less.
@25anomaly
October 2, 2025 at 7:38 pm
This product is meant to compete with e-ink products such as the popular reMarkable Paper Pro which is $629 dollars as well as other color e-ink devices which are also in this price range
@maxpayne216
October 2, 2025 at 7:49 pm
Can’t agree more.
@25anomaly
October 2, 2025 at 8:50 pm
@@maxpayne216 You would seriously look at this as if it’s intended to compete with iPad? What about the Fire line of Kindle tablets which are essentially Android tablets with detachable keyboards and office support? Kindle Fire Max 11 more directly competes with iPad and it’s $220 right now. These readers in the video have absolutely nothing to do with iPad. That’s like saying why spend money on a motorcycle when I can get a cheaper car it’s a totally different market. The consumer doesn’t understand is part of the problem. I think naming everything “Kindle” leads to confusion over the drastically different experiences.

@MrAdityaShriyan
October 2, 2025 at 9:18 pm
@@javiermartinez8809 I don’t think it’s just an e-ink thing. Amazon is notorious for undercutting their prices to be cheaper than the market competitors to eat up market share(a la the entire Amazon Basics lineup). Not sure why they’ve changed now, especially considering the last version of the b/w scribe was $419 with the backlight, and now that’s the price for the non-backlight one, which feels like a downgrade in some respects

@atl3630
October 2, 2025 at 9:03 pm
They are comparing the two because the iPad is infinitely more advanced and has more costly hardware that can be had for a similar price. These companies are nuts and these products have low to no digital security and connectivity choices are narrow.
@javiermartinez8809
October 2, 2025 at 7:44 pm
People complaining about the prices probably never owned an e-ink device. Supernote, Remarkable, Boox — all of them are expensive 🫰. I actually think the prices are fair, especially for the black-and-white models. The color ones could maybe be $25–50 cheaper 🤔, but I still can’t wait to buy one. They’re going to sell like hotcakes.
@ReadRestRepeat
October 2, 2025 at 9:18 pm
They are certainly expensive but the problem is because the displays. There is no competition and the display companies charge what they want. Eink brand the leader in black and white and then there are two brands for color. Amazon can certainly afford to go cheaper though because they have the kindle store to make their money where those other eink device companies don’t, and that’s what they use to do.

The high price will cause it to flop for this new color Scribe! Greed for such pricing when a slightly more pricey anti-glare ultra thin M5 ipad Pro” can be used to read, write and drop notes, and to do far more is upcoming in Oct this year

I really like the concept and design of the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft 2025, with its slim bezel all around.
However, I truly wish Amazon would take the exact same design (or make it slightly thinner at 4.9 mm, and I wouldn’t even need a USB-C port) and turn it into an “always-on” Echo Show display with Qi2 magnetic wireless charging, some kind of magnetic VESA-style functionality (e.g., like the Espresso display stand), as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and Thread (Matter) wireless connectivity.
I would love the option to use such a device both as a tablet and as a low-power, always-on Echo Show family dashboard—something I could easily snap magnetically onto a fridge or attach to various accessories (such as smart speakers with Qi2 magnetic wireless charging)—and that could also control Matter devices.
@Gravage
October 3, 2025 at 9:12 am
Why? So it can serve you amazon ads 24/7? That’s ALL the Echo Shows are good for. Hard pass.
@nicolasdujarrier
October 3, 2025 at 9:18 am
@@Gravage Well, you could have the option to pay an extra fee to avoid ads… The main goal is to have a nice, thin, and lightweight tablet with an “always-on” color E-Ink display and Qi2 magnetic wireless charging. I really don’t understand why such a device doesn’t exist yet—it seems like such a no-brainer for smart home usage.

People are saying this is too expensive and I’m here to tell you that it’s not. I’m surprised amazon got it below $700 lol. Not only do they use E Ink’s Kaleido 3. A 13in direct buy from eink company just the display itself is $449. This eink color technology was just perfected three years ago. Amazon purchased displays for these devices are custom-made. They removed the touch layer, and integrated it into the display itself. I have the 1st kindle colorsoft. Touch response isn’t great. So that change should mean the touch responsiveness is really good now. further modified by making the surface feel more like pen to note paper. another layer was removed the anti-glare layer. Also integrated as a glare free display. these things are great to read in the sun because it only makes the screen better because of how the sun reflects on these type of displays compared to a traditional LCD or OLED
They also made the LEDs smaller and doubled them. And the original 7in Kindle colorsoft has an unfortunate issue where the bottom of the display has a yellow strip across it. and I know it’s hardware from because I think it has to deal with the components in the front heating up and causing the yellowing. amazon could not fix it but they used software tricks to hide it well. which is why the scribe color has put all those components in the back to prevent such issues so research and development costs must’ve been high.
I read a lot of comics on my current 7 inch Kindle color despite the drawbacks it looks great. much easier on my eyes and I can read a lot longer because it uses so much less battery. Now there’s a even bigger display with good touch response, double the LEDs, and its thin and light. I will be preordering day one.
