The drag thing really got e confused. I guess people new to Macs get overwhelmed with so many features.

wuau. all this to move a window…

    Or I just use a £10 mouse.

Also turn off spring-loading delay. Makes the trackpad feel much more responsive

    I prefer 3 finger drag

tap to click is slower and takes more effort. You realize the click of the trackpad is simulated right? You aren’t actually pushing the trackpad down. The force required is much less effort than lifting your finger and tapping it down to click.

This is one of CNET’s goofier videos. Thanks for titling your video in a way that helps polarize the community over something as mundane as trackpad settings.

Btw, I know how to change my settings and I don’t use any of these. So, am I a dummy? Thanks CNET.

Hate the aspect ratio of this video. I’m on desktop people..

I use the three fingers to drag. It works better with the other features IMO

dislike because wtf? the title is so generic I watched out of curiosity and I would never want to do any of those stuff.
plus you don’t even explain what each setting does

To be honest 🤣🤣🤣 you are funny how can you tap to click
Please do the same with a mouse😂

Tap to click is evil. _How could you?!_

I don’t trust people that use tap to click.

I did this on my new macbook air as soon as I got it LoL

Mac trackpad from a Wintel laptop fan’s perspective, maybe?
Like using tap to click with electromagnetic Magic trackpads is the dumbest thing in the world. Wtf???

  18. Michael Peterson

    November 1, 2021 at 11:24 pm

Agree with everything. Tap to click and three finger drag not being default is a head scratcher. One more thing is I always increase the cursor speed. I feel it’s way to slow by default.

  21. Tim Brown

Tap to click is the first thing I turn off when I sit down at a windows laptop. Why? Because these settings make it possible for the OS to mistakenly think I want to drag something when I just accidentally double-tapped. I also very much prefer haptic feedback for all of my click actions—tap-to-click bypasses all of those.

No, I don’t think the Apple defaults are dumb. I think you just got used to dealing with the compromises of tap-to-click, got used to clicking without feedback, haven’t learned how to use the new trackpad, etc. I’m not sure why you would call these settings dumb.

surprised to see that’s not the default

shots fired with that title. I can tell CNET isn’t a massive fan of apple’s choices sometimes.

is there any reason that you learn to shoot vertically from Chinese?

  25. Robert Kelleher

Tap to click, only if you have an old mechanical click trackpad. And you forgot to turn off natural scrolling… because it isn’t.

  26. Dominica's Sound System

    November 2, 2021 at 1:40 am

How did they miss the most important one? First thing we turn off is that “Natural Scroll”!!!

    • Akshar Premnath

      November 2, 2021 at 2:51 am

Natural Scroll makes way more sense but it depends on what you are used to. Natural Scroll on the trackpad is like how you would scroll on a touch screen. I think of scrolling as me moving the page not me moving down the page. So, to scroll down, you push the page up and vice versa.

    November 2, 2021 at 1:51 am

Don’t forget to also enable right click on the trackpad instead of the stupid two finger click

  28. Raimundo Castro

    November 2, 2021 at 2:20 am

wth, tap to click is what sociopaths do.
also, the trackpad is big enough for dragging stuff all around the screen without any problem, unless you really need it.

  29. David Kaveney

    November 2, 2021 at 2:47 am

OMG I hate tap to click! It always detects a click when it’s not supposed to. Three finger expose is awesome though.

  31. Casimiro Chor

I HATE tap to click. It’s the first thing I disable on any laptop, along with “natural” scroll direction.

    November 2, 2021 at 3:30 am

    These are terrible recommendations

  33. pqsk

This has been around for 10+ years. They forgot to add the right click fix too.

  34. Jason Watson

Nice little tutorial. I always have these turned on making the Mac experience that much better. I hate how their controls are buried in settings. Kudos for sharing!

I forgot i had to manually enable Tap to Click in Touchpad settings, and was under the impression that my M1 Macbook was defective 😆

  38. Ivan S

I changed my accessibility options as shown in this video and now I am angry at the “dumb” person who suggested it and made it look like a wise choice.

    November 2, 2021 at 12:08 pm

This is weird, I’ve had my 2019 13inch Macbook Pro for around 3years and I have never needed to just tap the trackpad. The click/vibration it makes is satisfying and relaxing. It gives you the apple experience.

I know. I guess it’s only the people who are switching from the pc who will find it awkward. When I switched to the Mac 5 years back i felt the same way but I quickly got used to it and now every time I’m forced to use a PC I get so annoyed. The Haptic clicks on the MacBooks are so intuitive and easy.

I change that “without drag lock” to “three finger drag” which is super amazing to use

  43. Andy

To each their own… but tap-to-click is absolutely foul.

  44. Colby Holmstead

    November 2, 2021 at 5:49 pm

app expose yes, but tap instead of click is so frustrating. happens on accident too much.

  45. Kevvi

    I don’t like tap to click 😁

  46. Filip Sardzoski

Is anyone else experiencing tap to click not registering for every single click after the macOS Monterey upgrade? Seems to be an issue that a lot of people are talking about

This is a great and simple tutorial, and it will be especially useful for those who are new to Mac.

MacBooks have such good trackpads wha do this, imo tal to click on forcé touch trackpads shouldn’t be used
