Confronting climate change makes for better cities and a better quality of life, says Heidi Sørensen, director of the climate agency for the city of Oslo, Norway. From construction sites without noise pollution to fully electric transportation, she details the exciting green transition happening in her city. The Norwegian capital’s ambitious goal of reducing 95 percent of its carbon emissions by 2030 is driven by a unique policy approach: a world-first carbon budget, which works side by side with the financial budget and clearly states what needs to be done, by whom and when for the city to reach its climate goals. She shares five crucial lessons Oslo has learned along the way to creating a better city for everyone — and what it could mean for the rest of the world.

All it takes is money…our USA is giving it all away to support the rest of the world . Obama stopped promoting free energy by tariffs on solar panels to America, by 242% . As an America we really have sick retarded gov. We never learned our 1973 gas shortage. Again a corrupt political gov/ industrial monopolies. Sad

_In the end, you will come to realize that the best days are the days when you don’t need anything extreme or special to happen to make you smile. You simply appreciate the moments and feel gratitude, seeking nothing else, nothing more. That is what true happiness is all about. ✍️_

Be the person who breaks the cycle. If you were judged, choose understanding. If you were rejected, choose acceptance. If you were shamed, choose compassion. Be the person you needed when you were hurting, not the person who hurt you. Vow to be better than what broke you—to heal instead of becoming bitter so you can act from your heart, not your pain. _✍️_

Moving us into renewables before technology has caught up, is hurting American families. Inflation caused by the war on fossil fuels is pushing people away from supporting climate change measures!

Over 95% of Norway’s electricity is produced by renewables, mostly hydropower. But I know what you mean because unfortunately Norway is an outlier.

    • Rumford Chimpenstein

@August Kasemaa its 65% that is hydropower and its a bit of a stretch to call that “renewable”

Both India and China emit far less per capita. And the emissions for production of goods consumed by the west should be on west’s plate
Living in west I can definitely say that people here waste far more resources than people in Asia.

Let’s talk about where batteries come from and how electricity is generated! Neither of which are green or carbon free. It is just not happening in your town. Look at California heat wave and they had to ask people to not plug in their vehicles during prime time. I do think great that the buses and city vehicles electric. Not all people live in pedestrian friendly cities. Nice for Oslo.

Hoping there are scientist out there working on and even cleaner solutions.

I’m more worried about farming and chemicals used. Plus, the amount of plastics we use, and the pellet spills in the ocean.

I am sorry you are under attack. Our love, the motoring world, has been under attack for decades and most of us feel that bureaucrats and politicians are not “looking behind the curtain” when it comes to electric vehicles.
What is your goal? Sound pollution? You nailed it.
Zero carbon emissions? You can reach that goal with synthetic fuels.
Please look beyond the new shiny trend that others have decided is the only solution.

    • Pandaboi

      November 8, 2022 at 8:03 pm

I mean, I don’t disagree that EV’s aren’t very good. They’re heavier and damage the roads, making them produces way too many emissions, and they cause so many of the same issues as ICE cars. We need to move away from cars, if I were to cite two main reasons they’d be that car-first cities deprive children of their autonomy, and secondly because prioritizing cars erodes the local community (you don’t run into people on the street when everyone drives, except in the violent sense).

Farmers can drive, mine workers can drive, disabled people can drive, but them aside it is unreasonable the degree to which we cater to cars, all to appease the rich people in the quiet suburbs.

As much as my circle wishes it, motorists are not under attack. The world’s electoral systems won’t allow it. But you’ve gotta admit that about 50% of people don’t really want to be driving and getting them into buses, trains, bikes, and footpaths would make everyone happier. So making driving worse to improve these alternatives would make everyone happy (after the next election cycle, once people learn to change their habits just as the changes are reversed).

    • Rumford Chimpenstein

      November 8, 2022 at 10:30 pm

it doesn’t even make sense to worry about carbon. its a completely natural compound. meanwhile there are hundreds of unnatural compounds being released and not a single peep out of these so-called environmentalists.

    • Rumford Chimpenstein

      November 9, 2022 at 2:56 am

@Pandaboi Circular reasoning: you _assume_ it’s a problem. You also mistakenly say Carbon when you mean to say Carbon Dioxide. They are not the same thing. You also assume Carbon Dioxide will make the world warmer while ignoring the factors that are thousands of times more influential. We are coming out of an ice age, warmer would be a good thing. The vast majority of the earth is too cold to grow food.

repeating this earlier comment because youtube hid it: carbon isn’t even an issue. its a naturally regulated compound. meanwhile there are hundreds of man-made compounds being released and not a single mention from those who claim to want to protect the environment.

    • Pandaboi

      November 9, 2022 at 3:44 am

@Rumford Chimpenstein Did you even read what I said? Why am I bothering here.

Firstly, I did not engage in “circular reasoning” and I literally explained why releasing carbon is a problem. And I didn’t mean “carbon dioxide”, I meant “carbon in the form of carbon dioxide” because you seemed fixated on carbon-based life and whatnot.

Secondly, while there are factors more influential than carbon dioxide, there are none that’ll effect earth in the next 500 years. And those factors don’t suddenly make climate chaos ok.

Thirdly, the “mini ice age” that we’re coming out of was primarily Europe and was an immeasurable blip when it comes to global temperatures.

Fourthly, the vast majority of the earth is also too hot to grow food. Australia has had catastrophic flooding twice this year due to climate change. Meanwhile that same year China suffered a catastrophic heatwave with nighttime temperatures above 30 degrees celcius and massive crop failures. Europe was similar but less severe. These aren’t tropical countries, these are generally temperate regions. Opening up Canada and Russia to agriculture can’t compete with the losses in these countries (nvm losses in India). Climate change is bad for agriculture.

    • Rumford Chimpenstein

      November 9, 2022 at 3:58 am

@Pandaboi Carbon Dioxide is not a “form” of Carbon, it’s a compound. They have completely different properties. That’s as incorrect as saying Chlorine is Salt.

The sun and water vapor affect the earth every single day. You only call it “chaos” because you’re uneducated on these cycles.

The mini-ice age was very measurable. Maybe _you_ can’t measure it, but those more competent than you can and have.

Less than 1% of the earth is too hot to grow food. Now you’re just making things up, or you are confusing “dry” with “hot”

    • Joseph Erkenbrecher

      November 9, 2022 at 4:30 am

@Pandaboi Road damage: exactly! EVs weigh more that ice vehicles but ice vehicles are the ones that pay all the road taxes at the pump. Move away from cars: again I love cars. I love the way they look, the way they sound, the way they feel weaving down a winding road, the way… you get the point. Local community: totally agree with your point. I work in a hospital and walking past the people is a great way to have some social interaction. But don’t live in a large city, so walking to do chores or even walking 12 miles to work are not going to happen.

    • Pandaboi

      November 9, 2022 at 4:45 am

@Joseph Erkenbrecher The thing you gotta know about “road taxes” too, is that they don’t even come close to covering the cost of roads in the US. In the 60’s the gas tax covered about 70% of the cost of maintaining the roads and nowadays it’s about 30%. Of course, this pays for the poorly maintained mess that is American roads. European countries typically have a gas tax that’s 4-6 times higher. Mexico, on the other hand has no gas tax.

And some US state governments are putting a miles traveled tax on EV’s to cover the cost of the road damage they cause.

Decreasing pollution is great and all, but please leave the Ukraine and Dutch farmers alone so that they can do their work; before a famine takes over the world. Making electric cars more affordable would help, but then we have to worry about the pollution from all of the batteries. Sure, let’s increase the cost of running a vehicle, so that the poor working class people can no longer afford to drive to work.
