I so agree… I am retired and I walk every day my 5 miles to stay healthy. On my walk I meet many people, mostly walking their dogs. Many of them I meet every day.
I do not start a conversation for no good reason usually, but once in a while I feel the need to say something.
An old lady walking her dog, usually a small lap dog a chihuahua or shih tzu… I immediately feel sad, even so I do not know anything about the woman and the small dog. Usually small dogs do not know they are small and they pretend to defend their momy…
Just a single sentence will lighten up the day of another person. I say something like this:” Oh what a cute dog, my daughter has one which looks exactly like this one (This is not a lie, she does)”
The elderly lady smiles and we are on our way.
I am old myself and I can imagine that even older people are extremely lonely.
Telling them that they and their dog DO MATTER is important.
Society cannot function any other way but we are taking care of each other… and it is so easy.

Once I made the mistake while waiting in a pharmacy line I made the mistake of saying how fortunate a person was being able to be healthy enough to stand in line and be alive. That’s when he exploded into a TDS rant which then spread to the person behind me in line. Now two people are yelling victim narratives in line at a California pharmacy. Rule number one is watch what you say in California. Those two never deserved an apology for my kindness to them. So be cautious of mentally ill individuals in public, they are everywhere in California.

@thinkingimpaired5663 Sadly, they have not limited themselves to California. I had the same thing happen to me by asking a woman about her restaurant…

@thinkingimpaired5663 you are taking a risk everyday & talking to people you get all sorts of things you don’t know about. Depending on facial expressions is a bonus 😁

I talk to strangers all the time. Not so much the neighbors these days. I feel like I’ve struck out with the people who are “permanent features” in the social landscape. I stopped making an effort to reach out to people after COVID. I’ve often wondered if people in general know that it’s possible to connect with others. So, I keep to myself, my family, and a handful of friends, generally. But talking to strangers, I love that.

You can tell what some one is about just by looking at them ….. intuition is actually scientific & realistic . People always have the points where they are hurting …. so that if you find stability in some one that is very prescious .❤
