“If we want to avoid a climate disaster, we need much more radical leadership,” says Jim Snabe, who knows a thing or two about leadership as chairman of the world’s largest maritime shipping company. In a stirring talk, he encourages companies to take big, bold actions to tackle climate change — and invites anyone to join the TED Future Forum, a new initiative focused on the role of business in advancing solutions to the climate crisis.
Countdown is TED’s global initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. The goal: to build a better future by cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030, in the race to a zero-carbon world. Get involved at

The level of misunderstanding about climate change in this comment section is quite striking.

Why do we as a society globally allow a few oligarchs own and control the means of production, distribution and exchange? Workers make the world run, workers should run the world.🌎🏴

There is no climáticas crises, There is billionaires that want power. Greenland is the name that vikings give to a land of grass.
@bartroberts1514
April 6, 2024 at 10:40 am
Forbes lists 2,781 billionaires. 12 billionaires’ activities exceed the emissions of 2.1 million people according to The Guardian. Oxfam lists five ways billionaires drive climate change, and WaPo asserts that billionaires control climate policy: not one person has become a billionaire by fighting climate change, ever, and not one initiative of any billionaire has led to a victory against climate change.
Cut 2% of today’s level of fossil trade per month, down to zero by 2030. It won’t make you a billionaire, but it will lift a billion people out of poverty.

Sustainable comes with the false premise that the world is over populated from evil globalists that used to be called eugenicists, and who now use a green cloak of pretending they want what is good for the earth to hide their same evil agenda.

“Courageous leaders” should avoid private jets first, then they come to me and say “please reduce your consume”.
Or…just stop seeding clouds.
Everything would be better 🤡🤡🤡

Leadership means SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timely. Climate leadership means CASING:
Cut 2% of today’s level of fossil trade financing, licenses and permits per month down to zero by 2030.
Avoid methane emissions by replacing fossil extraction with landfill and biogas as soon as possible as much as possible.
Scrap fossil equipment to avoid reuse as soon as possible.
Increase energy efficiency 8% per year.
New biomass harvesting and planting equal to a trillion more trees’ weight by 2060.
Guard biodiversity equal to 40% cut in shipping traffic and like terrestrial measures immediately.

EV is not sustainable. Use CBG or Ethanol only. Not to forget the charging wait time in EV and risk of battery explosion. Also low battery life.

Meanwhile in the real world, most of China runs on EVs.

We need to realize that we all need to use the systems in place in society. Like planes, and phones, but we also need to move forward and stop using old science. We have new technologies, and need to move forward. Stop letting oil companies run our systems.

Capitalism, not government solutions are the answer for a sustainable future. Sea level rise is a red herring…stop pushing bs

The only people denying climate change are the same people who it will impact the least, they don’t go outside and they exist online to make everyone feel as alone as they are.
Climate change will affect the entrie world and coastal communites can’t take more than a few feet of sea levels rising before their citizens become climate refugees.

Let the best ideas win. The best based on not just desire but evidence. Not driven by greed but inspired by wanting to advance humanity. Don’t tell me, show me. Don’t force me, or coerce me, just convince me with proof of concept.

I tell people, “I would like to work towards a world where your great grandkids’ kids want to have kids and believe they can have a home.” Greed needs to stop being the sole motivation of this species.

You see “The climate crisis needs a courageous leader.”
I see “The climate crisis needs a fall guy”
@niccolom
April 6, 2024 at 5:31 pm
Yes, the climate crisis requires courageous leaders to make the poor people agree to go along with the sustainability efforts.
Poverty is the main opposing force to environmental sustainability, because poor people cannot care less about the environment. They have way more immediate concerns, and that’s all they see.
If you want to deal with the climate crisis without first dealing with poverty, then yes, you will need courageous leaders who can still win elections without the support of poor voters.
I mean, you can see the opposing forces right here in the comments section. There are a lot of underprivileged and undereducated people, who are probably flat earthers, and they continue to deny climate change, due to their tunnel vision and limited cognitive capabilities. You need courageous leaders to get their buy-in.
@El_Guapo98

April 7, 2024 at 9:00 am
No one ever talks about what’s being done globally to solve the problem. We get lots of “We should do this…” stuff, but rarely do we get “We’re doing this to solve the problem” that is not just political bullshit to get elected. We need honest education for the people so they know that things ARE being done, so they don’t get dismayed and end up like these protests and riots in other countries because of climate change and the idea that nothing is being done to stop it (even though it is, but they just don’t know what is being done!).

Where did you get the data, Do you understand climate? I dont think so. This is just random cooking. TS.

What if climate change is a hoax? What if you can’t get a grant to study climate change unless you add another shrill voice to the fraud? What if the data is cooked? What if the climate models don’t back-test? What if this is just a means of control… to get us into 15-minute ghettos and restrict more of our freedoms? What if there is no courage to expose all this?
