Thanks to advanced technology, we can now see droughts and crop failures months before they hit. So why are millions of people still going hungry? TED Fellow Catherine Nakalembe, director of the NASA Harvest program in Africa, exposes the blind spots that keep life-saving climate intelligence from reaching the communities it’s designed to protect — and shares how to turn early warning into early action. (Recorded at TED Countdown and Bezos Earth Fund on September 24, 2025)

Answer to question posed … Politicians, and the slow mo machine created by the elites, and ‘special interest’. Self interest equals death and destruction.

Russia is sending food aid to Cuba…to feed hungry children… USA sanctions, tariffs, and a weaponized dollar make it hard for most humans to live…Corporations love poor people…
China builds bridges, power stations, railways in Africa-while USA sells weapons….USA spends 1 billion a year on negative ‘propaganda’ against China…

Because of Capitalism, next question?
@edwinlin8846
March 3, 2026 at 2:57 pm
Lol, you can blame capitalism all you want, but really, no economic system is perfect. It is easy to complain about the problems of each of them, but what makes the difference is whether or not you want to find a solution to them.

Food production is treated as a market commodity rather than a basic necessity. Because of that, we see producers and supermarkets throwing food away when it is close to expiring, when it has minor imperfections, or when there is overproduction and selling it would reduce profit margins. They literally prefer to burn food. Google it. Hunger will never be solved in capitalism.

People are making million dollar businesses on selling cheap impefect fruit and veg that would be thrown out here in Australia. Helping many families that would not be able to afford a big box of produce. It can be solved you just need to figure out how to do it. Instead of going cant do it, capitalism.

@NagamedigitalNow imagine those same people running the process in a way that doesn’t serve the purpose of earning them “million dollar busineses.” Imagine that food just goes to people who need it. You have a boot-lickers point of view and even something so simple as “feeding hungry mouths” has been tainted through the lens of profit for somebody, somewhere. When capital gain is more valued than social impact, evil has already taken deep root in a society.
@Nagamedigital

@roythomas3667 You have to be realistic. You cant say now if we lived in some imaginary world. We dont. This is reality. You are more than welcome to use your money to feed hungry mouths but you dont. If you are not happy DO something. Dont just complain.
@roythomas3667

@NagamedigitalHere’s the kicker, NONE of what I described needs “some imaginary world” to exist. It was just as “realistic” a proposal as was the assessment that societies with the twisted values that keep the rich in power, the poor hungry, and the dogs like you begging for their hand-me-downs while pissing on your neighbors are societies seeped in evil and societies that shall be toppled. (There’s a little more context added to the assessment, this time, since it seems you can’t read between the lines.)

Just cap or allow a way for people who have a large amount of wealth to be used globally. Its not fair to sit on billions of wealth and not move it. The money is there. Its that it doesnt move. A billionaire can give away a lot of money to feed people and use subsidies from their government to get that money back. Just a 3% giveaway from the 1% can solve world hunger and homelessness. But that doesnt make money. Its just careless and the scrooge of the earth will always stand on top of less fortunate. Mother earth has enough to go around its just the stingy and over paid ceo and elite do not care for the actual wellbeing of the world. Its a different kind of power and evil.

Why are millions of people starving? Because after the end of colonialism, some countries returned to their old ways of life: war, corruption, ignorance, religious fanaticism. Where can prosperity come from? Everything has returned to the way it was 500 years ago. Didn’t millions starve and die in wars back then? Yes, they did. We need to ask the question differently: why don’t some post-colonial countries starve, and how are they different from those that do.
