The idea of “Game Cults” captures something we’ve all felt but didn’t have the language for. From fan communities turning hyper-political to extremist groups using digital avatars and Discord chats for recruitment, this isn’t speculation—it’s already happening.
💡 A perspective worth expanding:
It’s not just about the danger of radicalization—it’s also about the vacuum of belonging.
Games offer what institutions often fail to provide: meaning, structure, mission, and tribe. When the real world feels uncertain, unfair, or unaffordable, people naturally gravitate toward virtual spaces that reward effort and loyalty.
That’s not inherently bad. But if we don’t shape those spaces intentionally, others will do it—for worse.
The solution isn’t banning games. It’s understanding them, participating in them, and designing them with moral architecture in mind.

I mean I would agree that attention spans are down by a lot, but aren’t video games like, really long? As in like 10hs of hours to experience what most games have to offer? Seems like quite the commitment when compared to a season of television. Maybe I’m missing someting?
