This is also true with quantum computing. Both the US and China are pumping billions in this to get ahead.

I disagree, it is not about how sophisticated the AI models are, it is about how open these models are for the public to use. China seems to be pushing a lot of open source models which could be used by anyone.

Europe is falling behiind so fast

    • @IvarDaigon

      June 29, 2025 at 1:42 am

Europe is not a unified country with a single government or single goal that is why they dont achieve much in the AI space. But they also have stricter data privacy and copyright laws which means its just harder for european companies to copy the entire worlds data and then do whatever with it. “Wokeness” really has nothing to do with it.. just look at Elon’s grok which is considered too woke even for Elon the man who funded its creation.

US tech users are the ones that don’t get sanctioned, banned, locked out, kicked out, cancel, denied, framed about national security, spy, hacked, tariff, un-licensed, forced sale, changed terms of use. Europe got tariff too. It is no brainer that anyone outside US use technology that has no strings attached.

      2 points to call out:
      1. Calling it a race assumes there’s an end to the development of AI. Who gets to define what that end goal should be? No one has a clue yet.
      2. Half of all AI talent currently are Chinese, either working in the US or at home.

    China has already won

    * Trump brags about non-existent trade deals … Last week China signed free trade deals with 53 of the 54 African Nations

    * Trump mouths off about US manufacturing… The US in 1955 produced 70% of the world’s goods … Now it produces 8%

    * China is de facto head of BRICS … Those countries combined produce 41% of world goods … China nearly 16% alone

All America has managed by it’s attempted abuse of the power it imagines it has … Is to push China even further ahead of them

The US doesn’t have the energy capacity to continue the processing for its AIs at the current pace. And if the big beautiful bill currently being voted on goes through, it’ll hurt the expansion of new energy infrastructure. Meanwhile, China just last month installed 80GW of new solar panels, which is approximately the same as Mexico’s TOTAL energy generation in 2023.
