You can’t turn it on yet?! Microsoft having you review their packing material? What a waste of time

It looks really cool, I’m curious who this phone is aimed towards, because I get a business vibe from it. Plus it doesn’t look very pocketable.

It’s also a mini PC. Imagine carrying a very heavy and huge PC to work and school and anywhere. This is perfect.

If this thing at least had top of the line specs (instead of something from over a year ago and little ram), and came with a pen, i’d say the price would make perfect sense.. but right now, I’m worried itll be DOA.

This’s so overpriced when it has last year’s processor, a total of 1 lens that serves as both the front&rear camera&is only 11 MP, &no wireless charging, stereo sound, or 5G. This thing should only cost $200.

When you’re not allowed to turn it on until preorders are delivered, you know that Microsoft is very scared if this dud…
jo e
August 27, 2020 at 12:43 am
Huh? It’s standard practice lmao
Mad Rat
August 27, 2020 at 12:50 am
@jo e It’s not standard practice. Did you even read what I said? Usually, a product can be reviewed NOW, prior to deliveries and well after launch. Instead, Microsoft won’t let anyone TURN IT ON. That’s just bizarre. What are they scared of? Show me another phone where reviewers can only show it without turning it on until products are actually delivered. Either reviewers just don’t get them, or they can do full reviews (or at least turn them on for a general walk through).
jo e
August 27, 2020 at 12:54 am
Mad Rat this thing hasn’t even launched yet dude. It comes out September 10. Companies usually prevent tech from being used until after launch.
Mad Rat
August 27, 2020 at 1:07 am
@jo e Seriously 😂. Phones and tech products are reviewed routinely prior to release. Companies send them to tech reviewers all the time. What are you talking about 😂

I mean, that wasn’t one of the better UN boxing’s I’ve seen. He didn’t use any of the pull tabs like he was supposed to and kinda just went through it and didn’t zoom in to let us read.

As a designer, I cringed a little bit when he flipped the phone over from the box when there’s a perfectly pull tab right there to take the device out. lol

Hi folks, thanks for watching!
A lot of you are asking why we couldn’t turn the Surface Duo on. Microsoft’s review agreement doesn’t allow us to show the display until September 10. But we’ll show and tell you everything in a full review then!

August 27, 2020 at 7:15 pm
That’s strange 😁 Microsoft asked CNET not to disclose the software until sept ? But there are always leaks of devices beforehand and so it’s crazy. This is probably a marketing strategy of Microsoft to increase the hype and curiosity in minds of tech enthusiastic people. $1400 is probably too much. Hope it doesn’t push away people like the Lumia/ Nokia (at least they’ll not leave the competition this time for lack of apps)

CNET dont you use professional cameras anymore? why do i see so many videos lately that seem to have been shot on bad mid-range phone cameras? did you stop trying?

August 27, 2020 at 7:38 pm
We’re a large team working from our individual homes all over the world. We only have so many “professional cameras” while the rest of our hosts only have phones to work with. Looking forward to getting back to working together and sharing equipment again some day. But for now we’re doing what we can. 🙂

to me that is a much smarter design instead of a crappy soft plastic bendable screen
For 1400$ MS should have included their stylus pen tho. Making that an extra purchase is just dumb

This is a tablet pretending to be a phone. Might as well get a real tablet and utilise the screen fully at a fraction of this ridiculous price and with pen included.
Anyway Remember Sony tablet dual screen which doesn’t sold very well.

They guys/gals at Nadellasoft are firing on all cylinders these days. Well… almost all cylinders. They need to give up this pipe dream about Windows 10x and just release a Surface branded Chromebook next. So happy to see the company we knew as Microsoft dead and gone. Satya Nadella is the best thing that ever happened to them… and to Google for that matter! ;0)
