Uber, Lyft Appeal Ruling to Treat Drivers as Employees

We want it but we need balance. Unemployment and Workers Compensation doesn’t work. Why pay into a currupt system either? The companies are making to much profit. It is scamming Americans and it was a plan. Just like the sale of all electronics being multipled by 10 for GDP.

The core issue is a matter of CONTRACT.
The word “employee” is being used as an implied contract.
All that is needed to resolve the issue is recognition of explicit, valid contract.
The question may be whether or not the existing contracts are invalid.

@Juan Pablo Villafuerte I don’t know the number but, the Uber drivers that I talked with tells me they want to be the independent contractors. Vote Yes on Prop 22.

Most of the Uber drivers I know are mostly just upset at how much less they have gotten paid over the years. At least where I am from, for a low skilled job, it used to pay an obnoxious amount of money. Now it is really just on par with other low skill jobs in the market, which after expenses is not really worth it if you are doing it full time.
This law seems bad for the actual gig workers and only benefits the people doing this full time. Outside of the few who have made a Youtube career our of their Uber rides I am not sure why anyone would want to do this full time though.

My father temporarily lost his full-time job this last month and my mother was still unemployed since March. The money my father made though uber plus the unemployment money my mother received helped us a lot even during even during this crisis i thank uber pulling us though this hard time

@Ala Gladden real job: put in your thirty years and retire or a job that you will still enjoy doing at 45. Any job that you know your only doing temporarily is stalling that. You end up working at 60 plus years old with a resume that’s littered with “jobs”. Lyft and Uber are just stepping stone jobs(which is totally acceptable if you are actually making gains towards a goal). In a right to work state I’ve seen a guy buy a food truck with the money saved from uber. That’s great. Than there is the thirty year old in the more socialist styled states who’s competing with 17 and 18 year olds who have dreams and need that low responsibility, with a high roof to save or build a little capital to jump off for their career.

@sgtbjack Well you presented in a way that I can’t disagree. My father retired from the state after nearly 40 years and my mom retired from the same place as my dad after 20 years. And they would have kept working if their bodies allowed it. My dad had 2 heart attacks at work. But the 3rd heart attack took my dad in 2018 at the age of 74.
My parents who didn’t graduate high school was able to retire with multiple properties and ride around the US in a camper for months at a time.
I remember when my dad co worker old man Murphy retired with a year worth of sick pay. California changed the laws for state employees after that. Of course California was governed by Republican Pete Wilson at the time.
We all know Republicans policies are not designed to really pay people. Since corporate profits is always first priority.
