Well, nothing is too big to fail, Bannon and Bolton have already opened the box, a new cold war is here, not so violent as the last one, but none the less a cold war. This new era will stay for sometime, until one side fall behind. 20 years at least I would say, it is pity that 40 years of business relationship between the U.S. and China went really well for both side, but I guess it is over now, the good days are gone.
Robin Östringer
May 22, 2019 at 3:36 pm
I tend to agree, however I see a small chance that this can get solved now or with a more diplomatic denocratic president. But the trust of China on American politics pretty much is gone irreversible.
eden yan
May 22, 2019 at 3:53 pm
+Robin Östringer There is hope I guess, but yea, the trust that build up by the last 40 years has been destoried, this is the sad part. The funny thing here is that for the last 40 years, China never challenged U.S. build post WWII world structure, China is the strong supporter for Euro Zone as whole, China basiclly follow WTO rules, China support U.N. peace-making troop project and is the single nation that sending the majority of U.N. peace troop around the world.
In short: China likes the U.S. world structure….
This is the real sadness. It wasn’t like others that hostile to the U.S., China is actully friendly by large 🙁

U.S. soldiers give life and limb for this country on foreign soil.??
Yet…..the majority of U.S. consumers aren’t willing to pay the higher cost for their Nikes, underwear, electronics, and Walmart geegunk items….. in order to bring jobs back to the United States.??
No willingness to pay the cost.
As a “big picture”….the U.S. citizenship are a “me me me” sheeple.
Sure…they bleat LOUD and in unison during election time with their “make America great” Chinese t’shirts and hats when they’re herded up…..
but it’s just a herd characteristic.
They don’t really mean it when it comes to their wallet.
Kind’ve like…?…..
sheeple church.??
It’s…love,love,love…
tythe tythe tythe…during the Sunday sermon and late night TV “get me some God” evangelism…..
….and “get away from me you bum!” as they and their shepherds watch the lights go out in peoples homes, and the kids go hungry. The kids that are dragged to Sunday school every week to hear…”help they fellow man.”
Obama was wrong….
the U.S. is about a “Christian nation” as one can find on this planet.
??
“Me me me….get away from me you crying beggar…..YOU’RE NOT MY JOB!!”.
We “could”….we “should”….win this tug of war with China and bring living wage jobs back to the U.S. that are desperately needed.
But…..we won’t.?☹
Because…we ARE..a “christian” nation.?
With all the seen and heard christian behaviors.
Is what is…..
another moment in time to endure.
Sucks.
Don’t it??

25% tarrif on about $600 billion worth of Chinese exports to U.S. will be about 5% of China’s GDP. China’s economy DEPENDS on selling their products in the U.S. market – that’s a HUGE hit to them. Meanwhile, we would barely notice it – oh, and they CAN’T sell our Treasury bills because the whole reason they bought them in the first place was to make their products cheaper in our markets, if they sell them the price of their products goes up and consumers will stop buying them. In other words, that would only hurt them MORE, plus American companies could fill any gaps in consumer wants/needs. In other words, we would notice a slight, short-term dip and then become even stronger.
Trump knows this – he was born to renegotiate this with China, let him do it. His instincts are true and correct.

one is a fool if believe political slogan. America didn’t lose by doing business with china, Trump lies for political reasons. many american companies make huge money in China, up to 400 billion a year, microsoft, apple, Qualcomm, intel, AMD, Nvidia, Oracle, starbucks, kfc, g.m, Ford, G.E., walmart, cisco, ibm, coke, pepsi, many more companies from software, gaming, finance, Entertainment (TV shows and movies) sectors, the list goes on and on. even the 500 billion china export to u.s., china gets a small percentage in that valve adding chain, and Americans get a lot of money, jobs and cheap product by doing business with that 500 billion. China hasn’t fought back yet, believe me.
Jim Phillippi
May 22, 2019 at 8:18 pm
+Genghis Khan Wei All that over having to quit stealing intellectual property? And besides, in the end, it helps China, too. It makes their economy MORE fundamentally sound AND would result in an even greater intertwining of our economies. This isn’t about pushing China around – it’s about unlocking it’s true potential. Seriously, we just want them to contribute to the advancement of humanity in THEIR OWN ways instead of stealing our ways. Invest in R & D. Creative brain alongside math/science – it takes both.
P.S. I have great respect for Chinese culture – I have learned a lot from it. So don’t think I look down upon the Chinese people because I certainly do not.
Thanks.

I don’t think any fundamental change will happen between the US and China, Xi will just wait it out until the next election cycle. Most of the change the US wants goes to the fundamental nature of the C.C.P. and that will never change.

Security concerns is just a pretext to stifle the growth of most Chinese tech firm especially Huawei. Its an unethical ways done by an unscrupulous leader who always want to win. China is no longer the old China which the orange guy thought he can win easily and it has proven him wrong. At the end of the day, there will be no winner. The people of both countries will only suffer because of the orange guy with erratic mind.
