So what tech is the REV Ocean missing that could help on its mission to protect the oceans?

A system that can run autonomously and doesn’t need any help from outside of which the sole task will be to collect water from where it is floating on, clean it, and pump it back into the ocean, in the meantime collecting all the waste it encounters, stores it and brings it to shore where it can be repurposed for other ends.

Mitigate the pollution problem, increase recycling, and move away from a consumption based society. Simple. Soo simple.. eh.

My family has a 40m yacht. It feels so good to have, the freedom to go anywhere is amazing. Poor people will never understand why people buy yachts.

Freedom dies with truth. A ship lolling and belching climate changing emissions. Funded by oil companies. “Research” findings reflect those patrons’ interests. “The ocean is fine, the climate isn’t changing, oil is good.” They’ll say. The best hope? A somali woman gets health care paid by proceeds of salvage after somali coast guard seizes this floating lie.

With the fuel consumption rate of a Superyacht of this size, or a yacht of any size, there is nothing ECO friendly about them, or boating in general, but they sure are fun to own. Best of luck with this project!

Humanity does not need this type of inefficient ships, nor do we need billionaires pretending they care about the planet. There are other vessels and ways of doing research to improve the human condition. Nice toy, for sure, but how will it collect plastic islands, clean oil spills and restore marine life?

A Billionaire wanted to feel better about dropping all that money on a yacht .. or maybe wanted to avoid the stigma that comes with owning the biggest yacht in the world so they gave it a twist .. for now I’m sceptical but only the future can tell

A publicity stunt. Not a yacht insurance companies will classify it as 1 or the other. Looks like they made a floating platform to entertain investors and get a massive tax break from it not being a yacht but adding the research part only to save money. Shameful
