Organ transplants save lives, but they come with challenges: every minute a healthy donated organ is on ice increases risk. And even if things go perfectly, rejection of the organ is still possible. Cardiothoracic surgeon Abbas Ardehali introduces cutting-edge medical advances in machine perfusion — a portable platform that keeps organs alive outside of the body — that could help put time back on the patient’s side.

When my sister was 13, she was hit by a car and passed away. She wanted her organs donated. She saved 12 people’s lives. Im so proud of her decision at such a young age… It also helps to know part of her could still be walking around somewhere. She passed 11/19/03 on Jefferson Blvd, Warwick RI. She was an amazing human and ive never met anyone quite like her since.

I received a liver transplant in October, 2020. I am so thankful and lucky to be alive thanks to John’s Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. I take the anti-rejection drugs everyday and so far, I am doing great. Please consider becoming an organ donor. You can personally save so many lives.

I had a liver transplant 11 months ago. Glad you’re doing well! As am I. I’ve always been a donor advocate, never thinking I would one day be on the receiving end. I’m more vocal about it now. Lives are saved every day thanks to the donors, and the expertise of the medical teams. We know first hand that miracles do happen.

I also received a liver. 2017 after a long wait.
      Went through rejection April 2023.
      Still considered chronic liver rejection.
Transplantation is a miracle but not without risks.

@@shoenamcghee2199 I’m so glad that you’re doing well. Things change at one year, at least they did for me. Less doctor appointments, less trips to get blood levels. I felt much more normal. My doctor gave me the option now to have only yearly visits, but I’m sticking with 6 month visits. I feel much safer that way.

AND THEN ultimately RECIEVE an ORGAN while waiting for one of the most rarest blood types. 😯

He must’ve been the children of one these ELITES I hear so much about making 100x more than the normal person😳 hopefully that 22 year old uses that organ and does 100x more good than the rest of us are capable of.
