@00:37 “Apple AI”, short for “Apple Apple Intelligence”

Apple claims its AI servers run on 100% renewable energy. Not just carbon neutral, offsetting emissions, but actually renewable, no emissions at all. I don’t believe they would just make that up. It’s easily checked and the backlash if proved false would be huge. They could’ve also stayed silent on it. So actually: I believe them.

Back in the early 2000s, Apple had to face similar regulatory challenges with iTunes and antitrust concerns over music downloads. Fast forward to today, and it’s all about AI and charging ports!

I used to be a huge Apple fan in Brazil, but recently switched from Apple to Samsung and have no regrets. The AI features are at least two years ahead, not to mention that Samsung has stores all over my country, offers a charger and assistance, and has much more competitive prices. I’m very happy with the switch.

Ai reminds me when you need to buy phone because it’s 5G, how’s that worked out? It’s just another gimmick.😂😂😂

“most popular phone in the world”? In North America you mean.
    That’s a stretch when it’s only 25%

Let’s face it. Without the AI that everyone else already has, you have to admit that Apple has hit a wall. Still no multitasking or split screen (which is in iPad, right? So it’s not so big a stretch) . Tech reviewers are basically stuck making excuses for Apple.

Nice shirt though. The shoulders are very retro futuristic. ❤

We lost the environmental law a long, long time ago with the dawn of the industrial revolution. The human race will become extinct at some point. Just deal with it. Our gooses were cooked many years ago.

User privacy and data. What a joke in 2024, do people actually believe their data is secure with Apple. If one does, then they are just living a dream. Its all Apple propaganda 😂

      September 7, 2024 at 6:59 pm

Exactly. We do not want “fake news.” We do not want false realities (adding or removing elements in photos, for example). This is unethical.

  18. @calitb

    September 7, 2024 at 6:31 pm

ahaha, I am loving how the USA users and EU users are finally going to live by themselves what iphone users in other countries has always endure: features based on where you live.

Apple maps was launch in 2012, and still there are countries where turn by turn direction is disabled.

Apple fitness was launched in 2020, and some countries have it, others don’t… I guess in some countries people exercise different than in the US 😂

    and so on

  19. @horridohobbies

    September 7, 2024 at 6:44 pm

The vast majority of iPhone users do not upgrade their devices every year or every two years or even every three years. Only people who have more money than sense upgrade so frequently.

I do not expect a huge wave of upgrades based on Apple Intelligence. If this is what Apple is hoping for, they will be disappointed.

This is all the more true given what you’ve told us about AI fragmentation.

  20. @horridohobbies

    September 7, 2024 at 6:51 pm

Generative AI enables users to create “fake news” and false realities. This is something I will avoid due to ethical considerations.

AI should be a force for good. It should provide practical, useful outcomes, not chicanery.

AI should automate tasks. AI should inform. AI should do no harm.

    September 7, 2024 at 6:53 pm

yeaaa eu power finally regulation your billionaires. whoop whoop

  22. @horridohobbies

    September 7, 2024 at 7:07 pm

I bought a standard iPhone 15 last year (to replace an Android phone) because I was frugal. I did not want to pay extra for a Pro model. The price of the iPhone 15 was already ridiculously high.

So naturally I won’t be upgrading for years to come (at least, 3-5 years).

Just as well. Apple Intelligence holds no attraction for me. Generative AI is a gimmick, and a rather unethical one at that. Doctoring photos and generating text is dishonest, unless you insert disclaimers.

  23. @TheGuillotineKing

    September 7, 2024 at 7:15 pm

Fun Fact apple AI is being withheld from the EU as payback for making them open up the app store apple plus to fight back by withholding all new features and making the iphone fall behind other nations so the iphone users will hopefully put pressure on the government

Iphone 15 Pro and Max have 8GB of memory and can run Apple Intelligence – it’s the iPhone 15 that cannot

I suspect that the average iPhone user will try AI a few times, then either find it not so useful, or too complicated to use. Kinda like how the average user treats all those cameras. Most just want a quick picture of their kids/family, & don’t have the slightest idea how to use most of the advanced camera features. I’ll upgrade my 14 ProMax, mostly because I like a new toy, & to get rid of the lightning port. The AI software, which we’ll be lucky to get by Christmas, is kinda secondary.

  32. @PWingert1966

    September 8, 2024 at 11:48 am

Luckily, I am on the Fibonacci upgrade cycle and thus I can hold onto my iPhone 13 Pro until the iPhone 21 Pro comes out. By then the AI will be fully developed and the bugs from the iPhone 16 will be resolved

The freedom to choose your preferred default app is paramount. Apple is a bully and is afraid of competition. There will now effectively be first class and second class iPhone users based on where you live! The US government needs to force Apple and all other companies to allow users to choose their own default apps and stores!! Land of the free??? Only if it doesn’t cost large corporations money!!!

Why doesn’t Apple with it’s trillion bucks start production in the USA? Why that has to turn “political” is obvious, they don’t want production in the US, it would hurt their bottom line, I would get the new one if made in the USA strictly out of support.

They call this “rasisim” now. No one sees what these corps are doing, but we will soon.

40 years ago The Terminator movie came out, everyone thought it was cool and the thought of handing over such power to an AI computer (SkyNet) was such sci fi back in 1984 it wasn’t a concern, it would never happen, but now we are heading towards putting so much trust and power into AI I find it concerning.
