Climate justice activist Vanessa Nakate sits down with former president of Ireland Mary Robinson for an enlightening, intergenerational conversation about the state of the climate crisis. Nakate paints a picture of life in her home country of Uganda — which faces prolonged droughts, landslides and flooding stemming from climate change — and clarifies the need for energy-rich, high-emitting nations to provide climate finance for Africa and accelerate the continent’s sustainable future. “We cannot solve the problems that are happening right now with the very system that created them,” Nakate says. “We need something new.”

You can call me a racist but all Africans are determined so much on migrating to other (Preferably Western) developed countries. They don’t care about Culture, Country, Motherland, Traditions or driving their people/country to a better future. The number of Jamaican nationals is estimated to be significantly lower, at 49,000 in 2015 where it is more in US and Europe. It’s like these guys are focusing on becoming a Immigrant more than to be a true residing national of Africa. It’s not a triumph if you become successful in an already successful country outside, if you’re a true citizen with some common sense, you should be successful in your own country and make your country proud. What’s the point of getting rich and paying all your taxes in some other country. These taxes and your service to your country (Africa) is more needed. Half of the Africa is on War/Drugs, the other half on its way to illegally cross the English Channel. Some of these guys are not even fit to talk about Success, Determination, Philosophy and stuff when their own Country is becoming a Dark History. I’m happy to see someone like her wanted to improve the quality of living in her country.

Civilisation is unbelievably complicated.
This is why monkeys have never had one.
This is why people are primarily more aware of what other people possess than why.

Did you study about how a dust particle rises up into the atmosphere and moisture condensates on it and forms a drop that can be seen as a cloud ?
Now ask yourself ,,,,,
how can those jets way up there create clouds that scatter out and cause super high UV rays that harm everything on the surface.
study that and you’ll understand climate is being changed and you’ll be controlled because of it. just stay tuned and watch.

Even if we pretend for a minute that capitalism is a fine system, could we change away from it if we wanted to before it’s too late? I feel like we are suffering from cultural lock-in. If a group came up with a better way to live, fully planned, thought out could we break free?

Climate change isn’t the biggest threat facing the world, especially Africa, climate change activism is, a reduction in the production of energy from fossil fuels will result in energy poverty all over the world, people in the north will die of hunger in the dark damp cold, people in the south will die of hunger in the hot searing sun. No heating, no air conditioning no electric light and no industrialisation for poorer regions of the world so that they can catch up economically with western society. The whole world needs sustainable sources of plentiful cheap energy and governments that provide their citizenry with maximum liberty to thrive.

People are suffering from the effects of climate change now. I agree. We have technology now that’ll address the issues and provide jobs with living wages. We just lack the will to change and probably won’t until we have no choice. Still, this conversation was inspiring. May she succeed magnificently and lead the way.

It appears as if the World continuously tries to help Africa, but as it’s commonly known, Africans as a whole Community show no interest in helping themselves. I personally have given up on that particular charity sector. Let them continue to reap the benefits of their ignorance, violence and laziness…

While it is absolutely true that poor people use less energy and water, it is a burgeoning population that creates hunger, poverty the lack of education and wildlife decimation for the simple reason that it becomes unaffordable with more people having their slice of pie reduced. Investment in Africa should be spent on renewables and education above all else. Africans should learn to manufacture their own solar cells and windmills.
