The Future of Machines That Move like Animals | Robert Katzschmann | TED
Imagine a boat that propels by moving its “tail” from side to side, just like a fish. That’s the kind of machine that TED Fellow Robert Katzschmann’s lab builds: soft-bodied robots that imitate natural movements with artificial, silent muscles. He lays out his vision for machines that take on mesmerizing new forms, made of softer…

Late last week, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission chair Gary Gensler said that he was “proud to serve” the agency, which some are taking as a hint at an upcoming resignation. According to the official report, it took about 2 hours and 46 minutes from the time the fire started to the fire brigade extinguishing the fire. Some people posted on the Internet, complaining that the fire exits in the community were blocked by cars. This is because the community has been closed for 109 days, and the electric ignition of the car cannot be turned on, resulting in delays in fighting the fire. Since there is no more news, it is impossible to confirm the rumors on the Internet that the epidemic prevention caused the fire to be untimely. This requires official investigation and identification. But I also want to say that the residents of Urumqi have opinions on the prevention and control policy, which is true. Urumqi is the largest city in the country with the longest continuous blockade period. A large number of residents in this city have been prohibited from leaving the community since mid-August. Many of them stayed at home for a long time, and the blockade was only lifted for a short period of time in the middle Not sure), so some people in the city said they had been blocked for 100 days. Such a long-term blockade is obviously unreasonable, and it exceeds the limit that people can bear physically and mentally. The strength of the actual relationship between them is used to prevent and control the anger.

I liked the talk but since the Sim is powered by electricity, what is the energy source..? If it is a battery how could it be biodegradable? I would think that the ability to construct efficient organic “Batteries” like those found in many eels would be FAR into the future.

*_Why do, at times, we lose motivation in life_*_ ??_ 🤔
Our Motivation to achieve is greatly driven by our needs. We always feel motivated when we do something to fulfil our true needs.
_Sometimes, we begin something with a lot of enthusiasm but soon find it hard to continue due to a lack of motivation. We tend to lose motivation because we choose to do something that is not truly needed, doesn’t add value to our lives, or we are not really passionate about it._
To keep yourself motivated, there has to be a hunger to achieve it. When you feel that achieving will bring a positive change and a significant difference, you wake up each day with a passion for pursuing it.

*_Does unkindness represent disappointment from self_*_ ??_ 🤔
Unkind are the ones who are unable to handle their emotions. When they go through a tough time or are hurt, they blame others to satisfy their ego.
_Sometimes we come across people who are unkind and inconsiderate. They don’t care how their words, actions are behaviour can hurt us. They don’t realise they are so unhappy that all they give to others is pain._
Never let unkind people become a reason for your hurt. Unkind people are themselves wounded; they don’t know how to heal. If you can help them, help them heal with love and patience; if you can’t, learn to ignore them.

i think i just dont wanna live through the precarious moment where society could truly implode.
There ought to be stringent social safeguards for tech at this point.
In the past, machines were build from necessity, then later for efficiency.
Now its machines for the shere wonder f what might happen next. For some times, thats fine, but not all times, and the public should get a say

liking the potential for even better limb-loss etc. prosthetics (to even artificial hearts and internal organ musculatures otherwise), especially if it can be made actually affordable, as seems reasonable and likely from the described materials and processes and energy involved
be nice if this can be kept free of corrupting its uses, via all the usual and ready made means of sane governance and regulation actually implemented, instead of left to the usual status quo hegemonic broken paradigm dominating (medicine and machine tech and every other materialism-on-steroids industrial complex replicated on the OG first MIC model)
would be sad too if this gets shelved into one more amazing human potential crushed by intentionally depraved systems, inevitably resulting in more BS price-hiked kleptocracy scam-grifts to leech parasitically off of the majority of humanity’s suffering (and potential ease/comfort fully economically viable today) gatewayed/hoarded off into more oligarchic strife unnecessarily, all for (addictively crack-head levels of dysfunctional hyper obsessive) profiteering and other sociopathic aims/lusts

Soft body robots have been around a while – very cool to see the conductive ink/oil pouches and how fast they move. The fast twitch response from this soft mechanism looks more powerful than others. I wish he focused more on how they achieved the natural motion at 1:53 – all the tests looked epileptic. maybe staggering the sequence of contractions for a whip-like motion? Major change in the system between middle and end. And the more natural footage is time stamped 2018? Confusing
