When a 40-year old Ohio man named John fell in the bathroom and hit his head on the tub, no one expected it to change how the entire world approached space exploration. But John Glenn wasn’t just a business traveler in a hotel room, and the medical mystery that followed changed NASA and the space program of the USSR.
Was John Glenn’s vertigo the result of his orbit of the Earth during his Mercury Atlas 6 mission? Was it all just an accident, or did it come from his intense World War II and Korean War pilot service? And could the balance, dizziness, and nausea be prevented for future astronauts?
The resulting research into what went wrong with John Glenn, Alan Shepard, and other astronauts and cosmonauts who experienced debilitating illnesses after spaceflight pioneered the spaceflight to the Moon and beyond — and it all started when a man slipped on a rug.

Agree, sounds AI generated. If that’s the case, It should seriously be disclaimed that this video makes use of AI voice.

Hey Doomroar — this is Matt, I’ve worked with Kevin on Vsauce2 for 10 years and co-host The Create Unknown podcast with him, and now we also work together on Popular Science. I’ve had this short story video series idea for a while, and it’s great to have it fit with PopSci.
tl;dr: does not sound like Kevin because it’s Matt

I cannot believe that they made Kevin’s voice AI in this video, it almost sounds like it was voiced by a completely different person that sounds nothing like Kevin.

Ok, that’s a nice theory, but do you have 200+ podcast episodes of proof to back up your claim? Probably not!

So I had the same thought a lot of people have but I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Went and looked up some podcast episodes and Matt definitely sounds different here. I’m willing to chalk it up to presenter voice rather than AI (podcast vs video essay after all) but it gives me the same sense of uncanny disquiet most AI voice does. Can’t really put my finger on what’s off but definitely soemthing.
It’s a shame cause the topic is really interesting and I liked listening to Matt on the podcast. However the video needs more dynamic narration. If this is indeed not AI then maybe a other take or two would go a long way, I’ll give the next video a shot!

Edit: having listened to the whole video I gotta say the narration is noticeably better in the back half, I believe it’s real. Probably just growing pains in a new style. Overall I liked the video!

Something you missed is that his Korean War wingman, Ted Williams, was behind the scenes at the Cape for both of Glenn’s launches to see him off, the Mercury mission in 62 and his return to space on the Shuttle when he was 77.
