SpaceX is planning its first commercial spacewalk, sending four private astronauts, including billionaire Jared Isaacman, on a trip into a very high orbit around Earth. The mission is dubbed Polaris Dawn. Former NASA Deputy Administrator Lori Garver explains how this mission will push innovation forward for the entire industry, including NASA. I can tell Ms Garver is excited about this upcoming mission.. and I am too! Fingers crossed that all goes well, as it seems riskier than the usual rocket launch.

NASA is a customer of SpaceX. NASA is not a competitor. SpaceX is a company that builds space launch vehicles like Falcon 9 and Starship, NASA is a government agency that does scientific research. The kinds of research NASA does is not immediately or obviously profitable so not many corporations do it. The world needs both government agencies and corporations for space exploration. It was my understanding that 2 of the four crew were SpaceX employees, not 3 of the four (just the two women).
