The Sony Xperia Pro is aimed at creatives and professionals who take photography, filmmaking and live video production seriously. The $2,500 5G phone doubles as a 4K camera monitor and can be used to broadcast live 4K streaming video to platforms like YouTube. The Xperia Pro isn’t for everyone. It’s for content creators, photographers and videographers looking for a multipurpose tool with the benefits of a phone touchscreen interface.

Far too Niche. Not exactly something for everyone or anyone for that matter.

@Little patience for self righteous moral hypocrites Well we shall just pretend none of these people have a smartphone already then ?

    • Little patience for self righteous moral hypocrites

      February 13, 2021 at 5:57 pm

@Iain Wilks which of them has an HDMI port? Or a 360 degree 5G antenna? Or is made specifically to work with their pro equipment……most of it already being SONY equipment (Alpha cameras, FX video cameras, Cine Alta etc…)? You do understand that existing smartphones made for mass consumption are not actually professional devices (no matter what name they slap on them), and nor do they do what this phone does for professionals? You do know that Apple and Samsung don’t make the camera, and video equipment used by professionals?

@Little patience for self righteous moral hypocrites We shall see if it makes it onto production then ? I know plenty of pro photographers who don’t use of need this kind or tech. Biggest fail IMHO is the size of the image when it’s being used as a viewfinder.

@Iain Wilks you do realize big companies will be paying for this device for their employees.

    • Iain Wilks

      February 13, 2021 at 9:53 pm

@Manveer Ghuman Again let’s see if it makes it into production. Also the 5g support isn’t exactly relevant at this time. Limited coverage and stability in most countries.

MKBHD’s video wasn’t a review. He explained how it was the only “Pro” Phone. So this is actually ahead of Marque’s video

      February 13, 2021 at 4:50 pm

and where is the 5G live brodacasting ang cinema monitor part in your setup?

this phone is for people who don’t ask “how much?” and you are clearly not one of them (neither am I)

    • Little patience for self righteous moral hypocrites

      February 13, 2021 at 5:44 pm

And how would that give a professional what they need to do their job? You realise that all the equipment you would need to buy to be able to have a pro set up for photos, video, workflow, broadcasting etc…..would cost at least as much as the Xperia pro…..most likely more.

Reading some of the comments it’s absolutely mind boggling how many people (who supposedly follow tech) cannot get their heads around a phone being an actual professional device (not just a marketing gimmick), and being made for, having a feature set, and being priced for actual professionals. It’s not a mass market consumer phone and no one is pretending it is. It’s literally a phone that can double as several pro devices, and fit into SONY’s pro camera eco-system (alpha cameras, Airpeak drone, FX video cameras). But instead you have morons whining about the price, and making idiotic comments about iphones. Apple’s marketing sure has succeeded at making a whole bunch of people clueless, or believing that there’s only one way to do anything 🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦. These same people defend Apple charging 2500 bucks for a monitor stand. And if Apple had made an actual professional level device like this they would be jizzing themselves over it.

      February 13, 2021 at 6:55 pm

Well, I watched professional photographers’ blog, this phone lacks many features other external screens Sony also sales. For external storage, the phone’s memory card is no better than the camera’s. 5G connection is only for city vlogger

  39. avenuePad

    February 14, 2021 at 4:06 pm

I disagree that the Xperia 1 ii and 5 ii are meant for “pros”. It’s a consumer phone with a fully featured camera. If you can customize your iOS 14 homescreens with that convoluted method of downloading images to switch icons then fiddling around with camera features is a breeze. Knowing how to use proper camera settings is not a steep learning curve. Everyone, and their dog, is a photographer now. Just watch a couple YouTube tutorials and you’re on your way.

Oh, and you can now officially rig the Sony Xperia 1 ii and 5 ii to work as a camera monitor.
