The Sony Xperia Pro-I isn’t the first phone to have a one-inch camera sensor. But it is the first to put the one-inch sensor from the popular Sony RX100 VII camera into a phone. Sony also added a mechanical dual-aperture, EyeAF for video and a new 50mm camera. We got our hands on a pre-production unit and got to spend a week testing it out in San Francisco.

No reason for a phone that’s nearly 2Gs to have Android 11 out the box when 12 is already out. Never understood why OEMs do this.

One of these days Sony will put a mount in lenses and that will be it. A camera with a phone

If Sony put the same image processing as their dedicated camera that would be a win. Their phones have the worst photos because of the processing. The sensors are always good.

I don’t know if this was a promotional video for the iPhone 13 Pro Max, but the iPhone destroyed the Xperia. Didn’t you see the picture quality on the iPhone? 4:14

HOW COULD SONY DARE PUT AN 8 MP ON THE FRONT CAMERA OF THIS XPERIA PRO-I??!!!!! COME ON, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT AN $1,800 SMARTPHONE!!! IN 2021, YOU CANNOT PUT A CAMERA THAT IS LESS THAN 12 MP WITH IOS AND WITH 4K AT 60 PFS EITHER FRONT OR REAR. APART FROM THIS STUPID MISTAKE, THIS CAMERA IS PERFECT AND IT USHERS A NEW ERA IN SMARTPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY. GOOD JOB SONY BUT PLEASE STOP PUTTING CAMERAS LESS THAN 12 MP ON THE FRONT ON ANY OF YOUR SMARTPHONES, WE ARE IN 2021!!!

I’m starting my YouTube channel; I mean, if sounding incoherent and like have no clue what he’s talking about is how this guy does video for a major channel, I should have no problem getting to a million subscribers in a month or so.

    What a waste of time!

I actually like the design. I have a soft spot for Sony in general since I remember their glory days. I always root for the underdog especially in phones because whatever brand you prefer, competition benefits us all- especially in an Apple/ Samsung dominated world.

This is really the upgrade from the previous. Because xperia 1-1iii is just almost the same and this took the step ahead! Good thing I waited for this release. I’m gonna wait again for the next one. 🤣😂 Phone getting better together with the price getting higher. 🤣😂 Still using my xz premium. I hope to get a hold on this one in the future.

Not sure why CNET always airs reviews of Sony pre-production half working models and make sarcastic comments about the missing function, while other YouTube channels airing reviews day of product announcements are reviews with working models.

Its certainly pretty darn expensive, especially once converted to Aussie dollars but as I enjoy taking photoes with my phone, especially macro of flora and fauna, I would definitely look towards further review of its photo taking ability and consider buying it.

    October 27, 2021 at 3:12 pm

But how much of the inch sensor are you really using due to the lens size? If not 100%, why put it in the phone to begin with.

It is obvious that tries to combine phones and cameras I think they test new software to implement that software to future cameras.

At similar price you can get a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, an iPhone 13 Pro with 1Tb or this one. Thus, having the money you must choose between superscreen, superstorage or supercamera… or wait some years for this tech features to be popularized. Anyway, the future is promising if we have enough microchips to get there

No surprise that it still suck hard
Look at that crappy dynamic range
It was always the same. Never improves.
Seems like the software team can’t match to take advantage of the huge hardware upgrade
Its like playing an mp3 file on a 2000 dollar walkman :/

Only using 60% of the sensor really shows … On a large monitor, the images are just not as crisp as they should be. Why not make the lens a bit bigger in such a niche phone? Then you could easily cover the whole sensor and I’d actually buy the thing.

It would be great to have some samples of the video and photos to look at that haven’t been pre-digested by Youtube. I had the Red Hydrogen 1. So I have learned caution. I also just bought, and sold the same day, the Pixel 6 pro which I found to have a terribly ordinary phone camera, which is at BEST the same as the Samsung S20 ultra and a little bit noisier in photos. Very low rez. dd to that no expandable storage so you only have what is left of 250 gbs after all your apps and email are subtracted. So you won’t be taking a lot of 4K video with it. But the good news it isn’t really 4K. Just the file sizes are.

The Sony PRO-I looks like the only phone on the market with an improved camera from what I can see. But it sure would be great to have a place to download a few video and photo samples, ideally in RAW to play with and see what they really look like.
