I used to have the XM4 and the batteries in the buds died. I skipped XM5 because I didn’t like the design. I might be purchasing this one because I miss the Sony sound signature.

for most apple users the airpods pro 3 will be a much better choice despite its “technical deficiencies” in some areas., no apple user are going to be switching out their airpods pro for these, so the only market for these are android users and some audiophiles.

Suggestion. When reviewing products with microphones, consider recording the VO studio review solely with the product. This allows the viewer to hear the quality beyond just a short phone call where the audio quality can be overly compressed because of how phone call codecs work.
All that aside, thank you for including those phone call tests in your reviews and please keep doing them.

I recently bought Apples Pro 3 AirPods as my first ever Earbuds and had considered these Sonys as they appear to be of equal quality as well. I wish I could get them all but in the end had to make a choice so went with the Pro 3’s, partly to stay in Apples ecosystem.

im one of thoese people that AirPods dont actually fit it tricks you into thinking it fits but their glossy rounded body just slightly loosens enough that you loose all bass and ANC power Bose fit me well but for earbuds I need instant switching on apple because sometimes phone calls dont know to answer on the Mac or iPhone but AirPods switch back and forth correctly I may try the sony now they finally added vents for less occasion effect and the matte finish might keep them sturdy without fins but fins are always best!

After seeing the new design I would not be inclined to replace my xm5’s with the new xm6’s. It looks like the new version is larger and more “clunky” looking. These appear that they might fall out of my ears or be too difficult to get a good seal in my ears. I will pass on these..

This is why I’m happy that affordable earbuds exist. While I do appreciate it, the improved tech unless it has spatial audio I don’t really notice the difference between the budget headphones and the higher quality headphones. Spatial audio is definitely the future of headphones however, most companies and musicians are not really utilizing these features at least not yet.

New drivers cut down on distortion. I can’t say there’s none but they sounded clean with the tracks I listened to and I do tend to push the volume a bit at times 😊

I have used my XM5s for 2,500 hours since I got them, or 1,000 hours in 2025, according to my stats.
They’re not perfect, the glossy finish you mentioned is a minor annoyance, and the software could be better, but patches have helped and it’s a lot better than the already high standard when reviews came out.
The case is compact and the battery has never let me down, taking short breaks on long journeys you can get a whole day without finding a charger. Wireless charging is still something of a rarity sadly but a good reason to upgrade to these if it’s something you’ll use often (I use it on my office desk)
Big changes for the XM6s this year – but by the sound of it (pun intended) they are mostly physical, I guess? I can’t get a read on the new buds shape without a better view and comparison but the new case is interesting.
I would still recommend the XM6s if price is not a factor but I do like the compact sleek case of the XM5s. My only concern with it has been avoiding scratches in transport, but with reasonable care I have managed so far, and the new case doesn’t look any more durable anyway.
Edit: Oh but I do take small pleasure in the “black and gold” (/copper /bronze) colour scheme, shame to see that go simpler to single colour! Even some of the alternatives were tasteful in their own way

if you’re an iPhone user, you’re better of getting the AirPods Pro 3, $330 for the XM6 is bad and with just slight improvements its not worth the price. Even the XM5 seem like better option if you have an android phone(with LDAC) or better yet an Xperia Phone, which allow you to use more of its features.

I tried both expensive and inexpensive buds but finally settled down for Soundcore sport X20 sport. It stays in place, sound is great so is the ANC but call quality is ok. But the clincher is fantastic price with the rest of the features above average it is a no brainer

Still no 3-pronged multipoint like on the Technics AZ, still no swipe to manage the volume like on the Huawei Freebuds Pro, Pixel Buds Pro, Airpods Pro… , in fact for $350, the only “new feature” of these XM6 is the slight improvement in the quality of phone calls in noisy environments, pff 😮💨
