You’ve heard that too much time online is bad for your mental health, but what is it doing to your body? In this energizing talk, journalist and author Manoush Zomorodi explains how tech habits (including sitting all day) affect your physical health, from making you feel exhausted to raising rates of chronic illness. With early results from a 20,000-person experiment, she shares a practical solution to go from “wired and tired” to feeling healthier and more productive. The only times when i feel i don’t need my tech is when i’m out in a protected nature area or in the wilderness cause i don’t want my time to fly by or leave soon.

Phone YouTube addicts like me! Do This!!! go to your settings, and SHUT OFF YOUR YOUTUBE HISTORY. It will nuke the front page of YouTube, and it won’t start you on shorts- speaking of ALSO put a short timer for 15 min in the settings!
The channels you subscribe to will be your front page of YouTube, and it will only update when they upload videos. Same with shorts you will see the same 50 shorts in a ~24h period, it is such a deterrent. When you click a video you’ll see what’s suggested. It CRIPPLES the algorithms attempts to pull you in.
It’s not perfect,, I’m still addicted but it is helping. Doom scrolling is harder. Anyways hope this helps someone.

time and time again, its always the same answer, so simple. eat less, MOVE more. I WFH in my basement, and the bathroom, food and everything is upstairs, I go up and down often but I definitely need to move even more!

Instead of doing generic exercises during breaks, try doing some light declutter or cleanup tasks, it gets your body moving and also keeps the home tidy. Welcome to the 18th century, where sitting isn’t a problem.

Manoush used to host a podcast called “Note to self”, it’s a show about tech and humanity. She stopped updating it years ago, but I have fond memories of listening to it

Last few years at work I’ve gotten up from my desk every hour to the office gym to hit the treadmill for a few minutes and definitely noticed improvements up to and including way less back pain and stiffness during the commute drive home
I get it not everyone’s employer has a treadmill but just getting up from the desk on a regular basis and walking anywhere is a plus

As a sophomore, I have to admit that sometimes we get too immersed in course deadlines and social media. Leading to us gradually forgetting that our bodies also need rest.
Yesterday I stumbled across this video, and I confess, it awakened something in me. So, if you and I both see this video, please always remember and listen to your body better! Love them like you love your job!

Don’t stress, folks…..the experts are literally slamming us with “You need to __________”” This likely causes more harm via stress than the poor habits we have. In the case of sitting…….millions sit for hours to work, e.g., and also do some regular exercise and live very long, healthy lives. Relax…..

You’re exhausted because there is software designed to frustrate you. The frustration compiles with personified deception, where you thought you bought a toy to help your desires but it just hurts you for cash. Think of stealing someone’s dog and you don’t want to feed it. That’s the design of the software running your screen data. The result of frustration is abatement when you’re done. Either you’re broke and kick the dog and/or go steal another. Or you kick the dog and feed it. In the end there is just lots of people connected with Missouri. 😀 …
