I love my apple vision pro. I use it every day , just like a PC or Mac. Don’t need to use it for HOURS straight. 30-60 min or sometimes 2 hours (when watching a movie) is enough. The experience is simply unmatched. After owning Quest 3 and other VR headsets, they are all trying so hard to copy the OS features , but cannot match the quality and simplicity of Vision OS IMO.
This being said, I think it makes all the sense in the world to focus on a cheaper model with less features to expand the install base, get even more app support etc.
Will this ultimately replace your phone? No
Will this ultimately replacing your Mac? No
To me , AVP is more of an ipad replacement for my personal use. But even so, I can see the benefit of having a cheap ipad for the kids to watch movies in the car etc. There is always a use case for everything.

I only care about how heavy, big and uncomforabte it is do not sacrifice anything about quality, but I wont buy it if its heavy it needs to be like GLASSES.

The heaviness of these headsets is subjective. I never had that complaint for any of my VR headsets and never feel my that Apple Vision Pro is heavy and I have worn it up to about 2 1/2 hours at a time.

@@Greego I played echo arena for hours every day with both quetsts, took one look at the vision pro and new I would never ever buy it made of metal and glass. Also when echo arena was canceled I stopped playing VR and my neck stress looking back was INSANE. Like 8 hours in a row someitmes I played.

@@Sociology_Tube I’m
not sure why so many seem to be more susceptible to the heaviness and neck strain. When I go to check out a headset, I always cross my fingers and hope it will not be an issue and it never has been. I even had the original Vive VR headset and that thing was bulky but I still never felt like it was too heavy…. awkward maybe.

If Apple wants you to make this more widely adopted they need to lower the price. $3500 is way over priced. Bring it down to what the iPad Pro 12” costs. Until then, this will be a very limited product that 90% of people will just skip. It’s going to end up like google glass back in the day. Google over charged for that device and now it’s not a thing anymore.

I think Apple’s best days are long in the rearview mirror. I no longer look forward to new product releases as it is all the same ol same with extremely moderate updates which certainly doesn’t warrant purchasing new products at alarming prices. No thank you.

We don’t need a cheaper version that is even less capable. We want a headset that actually can do useful things, which is what the Vision Pro is failing at.

I can’t believe CNET continues to allow Bridget Carrey to make tech videos. Her attempts at humor are lame, her knowledge of tech is rudimentary and her business acumen is almost non-existent. To address one of the more idiotic statements in this video, most VP users wear ear buds or head phones while using the device. With that in mind, talking to the user in order to determine if they can see you is just as stupid in reality as it sounds when she says it in the video. Finally, the VP is most certainly not a “face computer for watching video”. That statement shows an ignorance of the device that even CNET should know disqualifies Bridget Carrey from being taken seriously in the tech world.

Apple needs to cut the cost by about far more than half. I don’t know if they are making any profit from each sale but I don’t think that should be their focus. This is the kind of item you sell at cost or at a loss if you want to take over the market segment. They need to look further down the road than just next quarter or two.

They can ONLY sell each unit at a LOSS if they make it up in sales of Software for the Device. Like video game consoles do.

Now that Apple’s Vision Pro has come to the UK, I finally got to try it last week. I can honestly say the experience is truly mind-blowing. It could be an early Xmas present. 💰😁

I am very happy with my Apple Vision Pro. I mostly use it to watch movies and the relaxation/meditation apps to unwind at home. I may not use it everyday but it is great to have when I need some escapism.
If you have AirPods for Spatial Audio and a nice movie to watch such as Avatar, there is no better way to watch a movie.
I think there is tons of potential with it to create nice rides or experiences that you see at the Disney Theme parks such as that Pandora ride in Animal kingdom. If they can make a nice feedback chair to go with it, that would be insane but I know that may be a fantasy more than a reality.

What I would find more interesting than all these VR headsets is to remove all the displays, keep all the cameras and other sensors, shrink it down in size and weight and provide audio feedback to the user about their immediate environment for vision impaired persons.

i mean, the AVP was meant for business users, not your average Joe. I wouldn’t be so sure that they’re working on a cheaper model. Even if they do release an AVP lite, it probably would still end up being too expensive for most people anyway.

Vis a vis offloading processing to an external device—I think XReal has demonstrated that this is not only plausible, but in the case of Apple products, could be desirable. With an ecosystem of devices at many users’ fingertips, the headset could be stripped down to sleeker, less conspicuous, more portable glasses. Take what XReal started with the Beam (and arguably has done much, much better with the Beam Pro) and take it to the next, glorious Apple level of execution.

Even if they sell for 100$ it will never be as popular as iPhone. Reason is human biology. Eyes will get tired after sometime and you will want to take it off.

It’s not the price the scared me away, it’s how uncomfortable it feels and lack of use case.
If it had some amazing games or something, then I’d consider it. Otherwise, I’m good with just an iPad.

Can’t remember where I heard this, but one of the biggest reason it hasn’t taken off is that it is not a general purpose computer. It is less like a Mac, and more like an iPad. If you want to do things that only a desktop can do, you have to connect it to a Mac, making it an extremely expensive accessory for your Mac, and an entertainment device. Neither is compelling enough to justify the price tag.

There’s no reason to have an outward facing screen and sensors. Focus on the user experience and make it less than half the weight.

The only thing that matters, and the reason it’ll never work as is in my opinion has nothing to do with the cost – it needs apps or games or experiences that actually give it a reason to exist – it’s the same problem VR in general has, there’s nowhere near enough software for the price and inconvenience of the hardware to make sense to most people
