The Galaxy A53 5Gā€™s large screen, high refresh rate, versatile camera and long battery life make it a great value at $450. Yet there are moments when its price shows, such as when the software occasionally lags or the screen becomes harder to see in bright sunlight. But overall, the Galaxy A53 5G gets a thumbs-up for the balance of features it offers for the price.

punch hole and no audio jack.. Pass.

Itā€™s either a hole, thicker bezels, or a tear-drop notch which eats up more screen real estate. You easily forget the hole is there when watching 16:9 video since the screen is AMOLED, plus that area isnā€™t used for anything anyway. I thought Iā€™d miss the audio jack but unless youā€™re an on-the-go audiophile, bluetooth earbuds are cheap enough and more convenient.

Good review but I gotta be honest mentioning that brightness has to be turned up high in sunlight is pretty much all phones. Iā€™ve owned smart phones for almost 15 years and I have yet to see one that doesnā€™t have to be turned up high in sunlight.

Donā€™t get why she even mentioned it since it is normal. But cnet does not always have the best or most serious reviews so. Alot of times I notice they lack a bit of knowlage.

Overall, far too glossy a review ā€” mostly comparing this to the high end phones. (good sales job, btw) BUT no mention that these phones are apparently selling WITHOUT charger or phone portā€¦. (No big deal for those who already have the high end chargers and bluetooth whatever) But infuriating for those who buy one not realizing all the basics theyā€™ll need to buy!

Agar dekha jai toh samsung ne jo kaha hai ki environment keliye unlogo ne charger hataya hai toh thora sa true hain q ki box ke elava extra charger toh bantahi hai . Isliye sirf extra hi Lena parega. Ea bhi chese hai ki logo ka Paisa kharch hoga aur company ko bhi profit hoga. Lekin meh ek chese suggest krunga ki charger offline se hi kharide q ki online meh extra packaging hota hai toh offline meh extra packaging nahi hoga toh ek Tara se packaging waste nahi hoga

Great midranger for people who donā€™t need a more powerful phone.
But yeah.. The phone should auto boost the brightness in sunlight. Use auto adjust and then finetune it so it remembers your prefered brightness settings. Kinda basic.
And why do you complain about it if it gets bright enough to use in direct sunlight anyway? That is all you can expect.
And no.. Actually supports 2TB external.. Basicly been standard since the LG G3ā€¦ Just not easy to find 2TB cardsšŸ˜…

If Samsung really wants to be Competitive, then they should of added a SnapDragon 780-5G, 108MP Camera, a Glass/Metal Chassis or Back, and the best Photo and Video Quality for the price. Then it would be on par with Xiaomiā€™s $250-$350 Poco X4 Pro 5G

Iā€™ve been using my A53 for almost 2 weeks now and itā€™s been pretty decent. I bought it straight from Samsungā€™s web store which had an offer which bundles the Galaxy Buds Live ($169) for free which offsets the lack of a headphone jack. I do most of my serious music listening on my PC with a DAC and IEMs anyway, but the buds sound surprisingly good for what they are. It doesnā€™t come with a wall adapter, but I already have some, you have to remember thatā€™s part of what makes it cheaper. On the surface it might look like a downgrade to some people, but if you have ways to offset them then what youā€™re left with is a good phone. Iā€™ve had nothing but bad experiences with Samsung products but this might be the first decent one.

A lot nitpicking for a midrange phone. Honestly, they packed a lot for a midrange. People that get these phones donā€™t care about the snappiness, photo quality and max brightness. They get the phone to get basic smartphone needs day to day.

YaY for the SD card slot. I will always have one on a phone I own. One of the main reasons I abandoned Samsung flagships, plus the outrageous price. Somethin in me will never let me spend over 700 for a phone tops.

Well produced review CNETā€¦but it would be way more helpful if you compared the phone to another similarly priced recently released android phone, not Samsungā€™s S series. The S series is on a whole different tier. Obviously the S series is going to be better in every aspect. Also, you should elaborate a bit more on the different features if youā€™re gonna compare to apples similarly priced iphone.

    2) Portrait videography is not there and can it come by update and
    3) Exynos 1280 in A53 is optimised well now or can be better optimise in future by giving some updates
    4) Can Exynos chipset is able to handle 4 years Major Android OS Updates and 5 years Security Updates beacause Exynos chipset history for long time is not good even if in its high-end flagship mobile phones.
    5) Stabilization in Full HD at 60 FPS is also not there. So can it also be added in future by pushing updates

I just had the opportunity to purchase a five year old Galaxy S8. The best SAMSUNG phone ever built. Five years ago I didnā€™t want to spend around 900 USD for that beauty. Now I got it much cheaper of course. (They still sell for about 200 USD!) Man, what a great phone. I threw my A50 in the corner and the old S8 became my main phone. It has only Android 9, but works perfectly. No deficits. And the AMOLED display is perfect, itā€™s fast and the camera (photo and video) results are astonishing. This proofs very clearly: The newest is not necessary the best! The S8 is my new companion now. And the curved display is a real attraction, the new S22 doesnā€™t even offer one. And in the good old days SAMSUNG even added a set of perfect AKD headphones to the box. All that is history now. Unfortunately. Now you just get an empty box with a phone only. ā€“ SAMSUNG should return to the old days of perfection! (I also still have an old GALAXY J7 with a great display and the longest ever lasting battery!) Man, SAMSUNG really used to be goodā€¦

I agree there, and the s9 similar. The only problem is that neither are any longer getting security updates. I do all my banking and transactions on the PC, so not terribly worried when using them. The S9 has the dual speakers, but the s8 was the last to have the physcal home button.

I am a blind user, so use TalkBack, and navigate the phone through explore by touch, moving the finger over the screen to get to a desired icon. Then double-tap the icon to execute.

Since I got the phone on Monday, I have noticed the lag, sometimes. The unit has gone through a software update already, plus a TalkBack update.

I would like to see stronger vibration intensity feedback, which would help in the explore by touch navigation. This would be like crisping up a blurry screen for those who are sighted.

The only thing I do with the camera is take selfies and regular pics for sharing, so not worried about the finer details of photography.

The dual speakers are amazing, and do wonderful things for my Youtube playlists.

I have over 100 apps on my phone, but let the app tray do all the work of organizing, by sorting alphabetically, and thatā€™s where I spend my Navigation time. I use the 5 by 6 grid, and donā€™t allow apps to download on the homescreen. The main thing I have there is a time/weather widget, so I use it mostly as a landing page, with docking icons of phone, messages, browser, Gmail, and I moved the Settings icon into that last slot.
I simply swipe up with two fingers to get to the apps pages.
Reading Kindle books is wonderful on this device, and I like the smaller width to fit my hand, (3 inces across).

I did forget to say above, that this device, like all other Android devices now, can have TalkBack load at the first unboxing, so a blind person can set up the phone independent of sighted assistance.

I donā€™t prefer many of the Samsung apps, preferring Google and others, but I must say, samsung is doing a great job in upgrading its TTS engines, and, hopefully, the 3.1.02.95 TTS version will upgrade to the ā€“97 soon. This all depends on if the phone you get is unlocked, the region where you live, and your carrier.

Anyway, a great phone, and I got myself a rose gold floating crystal bling case for a fun touch.
This is, indeed, a great phone.

I wanted to love this phone so much. I literally pre-ordered this phone in the US when it was first announced and got it around March 26-27th. Iā€™ve had it for a little over two weeks now and I have to say the exynos 1280 seriously sucks. It has serious stutters while gaming and and thereā€™s even screen lag. The battery is solid, but if you already have the Samsung A52 5G, your better off with that phone. I want to say it out performs the A53 5G in daily usage, benchmarks dont always tell the whole story. Iā€™ll be sending this phone back this weekā€¦..its been a complete disappointment for me.
