TikTok was tanked in large part due to the Israel lobby not wanting Americans to have an accurate news source for what’s happening in Gaza. And how does the Chinese social credit system that much different than a US credit score? It determines where you can live (and therefore what school you can go to),what car/house you can buy, whether you can start a business and get a loan or not etc.

  39. @meesiam100

    July 30, 2025 at 8:08 pm

Full of disinformation. This academic is a known US Anti-China Hawk. Social credit system is just over-rated, used by the West as a scare mongering tactic. Its something like your credit history report + police records. They do it in the US too if you are taking out a loan i.e., look at your credit history. If you apply for a job as a childcare teacher, they see whether you have any child abuse records. For China, it is just combined into the social credit system.

very strong state presence is not comunism – not even socialism. BTW, there has never been comunist country – not even Cambodia. Are there socialist countries? Modern China is a centrally directed market economy ruled by one authoritarian party, where the party’s authority is based on nationalism rather than socialism, and the planning is geared towards strategic goals to achieve national greatness like military and economic power rather than social goals like equality. Economists that study economic structures know these are the characteristics of fascism. Of Communism China retains only the name and symbols and nominal state-ownership of land. A political scientist shouldn’t have failed to at least point that out.

The two together is going to be our modern version of the Bronze Age collapse. It’s going to hit Asia especially hard because they link their racial and cultural identities together. Think about South Korea, could they take in a million Africans in immigration and still ‘feel’ like Korea? I can’t understate how huge this will be in our lifetimes.

#1:30 the war between the communists and the nationalists started before ww2. the nationalists pushed the japanese out while the communists were laying low. that was the main reason the communist won in 1947 overvthe weakened nacionalists

  89. @motopeter2409

    August 1, 2025 at 7:03 pm

#3:10 the island chain creates a physical blockade underwater, which doesnt allow the chinese submarines to more into international waters unnoticed. also the national water areas overlaps at many points so chinese has to violate national territories to move to the pacific. of course we know china doesnt give a fig about international law and other nations yet avoids open conflicts momentarily

  90. @motopeter2409

    August 1, 2025 at 7:09 pm

#4:15 the mao regime killed the middle class. in the last 15 years that came back at urban areas. but an estimate 600M, almost half of the population lifes on minimal income (i forgot the figure, but you can see the poverty on rural china videos everywhere) so that ‘lifting up’ argument is not very accurate.

  91. @motopeter2409

    # 10:25 china has no state pension system so those one child has to supoort 2 parents and 4 grandparents. thats a huge social stress.

the population boom is not a chinese speciality, it happenes everywhere when a country inteoduce healthcare and starts an economical modernisation. the philippines doubled in the last 30 years leading to wildspread poverty. when a child become an asset for a family that boom is inevitable.

    I agreed with Michael Beckley.
First, it is wrong to have a single party system like in China. They should have a two main parties system like us (USA) where our politicians fight all the time CANNOT getting anything done.

Second, Mr. Beckley is correct that the communist party control the land and much of the resources and they uses it to lift 800 million Chinese out of poverty and also use to build infrastructure and invest in education and fund research to benefit the Chinese people. Instead I think wealth should be control by the top 1% like here in the USA because this is capitalism.

Third, What the Chinese communist did to Jack Ma is wrong. I think China should be more like us, where our beloved oligarchs are free to buy/control our politicians. This way, we cannot elect just anybody but only the people that our oligarchs put in front of us, which make voting more simple and easy for us (Americans). In addition the politicians that are support by our beloved oligarchs will do whatever these oligarchs wants thus not be bother by what millions of people want.

Even chinese people themselves don’t know Xi that well and don’t know the political fighting/ the cliques that form behind closed doors, why make all these wild assumptions? Stick to the facts. For all we know, Xi may be the result of the party realizing that the corruption/openness has gone too far and they need someone to rein it in – someone to be the bad cop.

We as outsiders don’t have access to these info so we should just stick to the facts, stop giving character to Xi.

Unfortunately in some democracies the people seem incapable of making well informed decisions about who they should vote for. Usually all it takes for them to vote for one party over another is the promise of lower income tax. This has meant far higher indirect taxation which is less fair. China definitely has s better idea on how to run an economy than Britain where free market dogma allowed the sell off of monopolies giving the green light for ordinary people to be ripped off. E.g. our water companies.

This video is the definition of bias and misinformation by omission. Also, read other people’s comments for his use of words that showed his colors. That said, it is his job to do so.
There are TONS of issues in China for sure. Do your own research and even go to China yourself to see for yourself. (Then again, what you see as foreigner can be superficial, but at least it can open up some fresh view points.) I am just going to point out a few things.
Surveillance in China is a two-sided thing. If you ask people in China, they often believe that it is a good thing as it brings down crime. I had a month vacation in China and it was true. Whenever I asked if I could temporally leave something behind and retrieve couple minutes later, people there would say “don’t worry, there is surveillance.” However, it is a huge security risk and can be easily abused. The point is, it is not a one sided thing as this guy says.
As for education, Chinese high school is not free, but junior high education is better than U.S. high school education. You can easily score 800 SAT math with Chinese junior high math. It says more about how bad U.S. education system than anything else. Also, Chinese university entrance is far more fair than the U.S. system. It is called the only fair thing in China, which says a lot about China. You can change your life / family with that exam. As the result, in China, there is hope for prosperity even if you are born in a poor family. In the U.S., the systematic failure to educate people, despite spending a lot of money, means that poor people will stay poor for generations, because rich people will find other ways to educate their kids. There is little hope for poor people in U.S. As a U.S. citizen, I am just hoping that our school focus on teaching kids STEM rather than fighting ideologies (LGBTQ, evolution) etc.
As for Tibet, go read the history by American scholars rather than listening to one sided mouth piece. Also, go watch some videos on Dalai Lama by BBC.

    • @sherlockgnomes147

      August 4, 2025 at 5:49 pm

all of what you said could be true, but the usa is still better on human rights. China has very few humans rights that it respects and I dont care how good the schools are, i would rather go to an american school because you have the right and obligation to criticize the government. Privacy is a human right, there are other ways to bring down a crime rate, and it does not in the least bit justify breaching that human right. also im really worried that you said evolution is an ideology?? please tell me you believe in evolution.

If you’re curious on some context – Beckley’s two previous books are “Unrivaled: Why America Will Remain the World’s Sole Superpower”, and “Danger Zone: The Coming Conflict with China”. Both him and his co-author are affiliated with the AEI – a self-confessed neo-conservative thinktank, the majority of whoms board members are executives of multi-billion dollar finance and investment firms.

You are still fully entitled to make up your own mind about everything in both of those books and this video – but I feel this is much needed context.

    • @bigfisher4354

      August 5, 2025 at 2:15 pm

Yawn. Let’s list a few things that are objective facts.

Over 40% of China’s GDP is tied to its bloated, speculative property sector — real estate, construction, steel, and finance. Nearly half the economy depends on a debt-fueled bubble already cracking under defaults, ghost cities, and collapsing demand.

At the same time, China censors its own economic data — youth unemployment, regional output, household income. That’s not what strength looks like. That’s fragility.

Only 4% of China’s population lives in Tier 1 cities like Shenzhen or Shanghai. The rest — over a billion people — live in a very different China. Nearly half the population survives on less than $10 a day.

As for the claim that the US is trying to encircle China — if that were true, why are China’s neighbors the ones aligning against it on their own terms? Japan, India, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, South Korea, Singapore, Australia — these nations aren’t being manipulated. They’re reacting to China’s behavior.

This was clear at the recent Australia-led military summit, where nearly every Indo-Pacific nation joined drills explicitly aimed at deterring China. If this is just Western propaganda, why are China’s own neighbors choosing to act together?

You don’t risk war because of a think tank report. You do it because you’ve seen enough.

The yuan will never replace the dollar. It’s not freely convertible, it lacks transparency, and it’s backed by a regime that can rewrite the rules at any moment. Global markets don’t trust that.

Sure, AEI has a neocon history. But the realities of China’s economic fragility, regional pushback, debt diplomacy, and lack of global financial trust are clear to anyone who actually looks — regardless of who publishes the message.

This guy is absolutely AWFUL and a total RAT! Lmao we will never ever ever get China right by continually inviting these clowns to speak to people like they’re some authority. In people’s defense, there’s an endless supply of these so I’m sure there are cases where sincere people invite people they don’t know are frauds and genuinely hope to learn and educate. But no ya this guy is horrendous and so is the “Think Tank” he’s a part of.

The GDP per capita in Taiwan (34 k$) is roughly three times higher than in mainland China (13 k$). Taiwan shows what China could be if they were not lead by a communist dictatorship. That is one ugly truth why the Chinese regime wants to crush a peaceful and democratic neighbour.

So in a hypothetical scenario where Democrats established their own country in Alaska, would a military action by the U.S. government to stop them be considered an invasion of a sovereign nation?

  213. @LucaShutz

    August 6, 2025 at 4:22 pm

I’d say there is a lack of context with the way people see One Party rule in socialist countries.

The problem with this point, is that, historically, the USA itself has intervened to crush down on any socialist oriented DEMOCRATIC attempts (or just basic nationalization of resources/sectors) to change the economic system in various countries.

So, what does that mean? It means that more centralized political control becomes essential for socialist countries, just like it happened in the Soviet Union.

Does that mean at its core it’s a good thing? Not necessarily, socialism is supposed to bring democracy to the final stage where a dictator still reigns: the workplace. But this authoritharian tendency in Socialist States is inevitable if it becomes a matter of survival against imperialist interests.

Remember, what matters here is material conditions.

Wow, at the 22 minute mark, the guy clearly lied about the 2016 court case the Philippines brought against China. He claimed that the Philippines took them to the “World Court”, which is a blatant lie. They used a little-known court system set up for arbitration called “The Permanent Court of Arbitration” (which isn’t “permanent”). The court was meant to set up disputes between countries via arbitration, whereby each state would, firstly, agree to abide by the court’s decision. Secondly, they would both be involved in setting up the court, each country paying half the legal fees and selecting half the judges. This is why the court has no enforcement mechanism, because it was always meant to be consented to by each side before the court was created. The Philippines, with U.S. assistance, set up the court in violation of its intended use, paid for everything and selected all the judges, which amounts to massive bias and a bribe to the judges involved, and then got the decision they wanted. It’s a joke, and such a joke that even the Philippines ignored the ruling for years afterwards.

  222. @jasonjean2901

    August 6, 2025 at 7:26 pm

At the 23 minute mark, the guy discusses the supposed “studies” that Tik Tok was supporting anti-Israel views. The rationale for this conclusion was based on comparing Tik Tok videos to YouTube and Instagram and other social media platforms in the U.S. However, what is not discussed is that all the other social media platforms in the U.S. are already censored by the U.S. government, just like its universities now are. Tik Tok isn’t under the direct control of the U.S. government, so it’s videos are, frankly, more free. Hence, why people in the U.S. government, including Trump, want to buy it so they can control it.
