Would you tango with a robot? Inviting us into the fascinating world of dancing machines, robot choreographer Catie Cuan highlights why teaching robots to move with grace, intention and emotion is essential to creating AI-powered machines we will want to welcome into our daily lives.

Funny , I was just asking on a radio show, could A.I. be wirelessly connected to robots mic, speaker, camera, and motor functions ? Then it could keep all giros calibrated and maximize all functions. And the robots could interact with humans in a more human level.
But then i ttthink about neurolink in our brains and being put to sleep but our bodies made to move and wirk for A.I.
@SozioTheRogue
July 2, 2024 at 7:25 pm
Yeah Neuralink doesn’t work that way. At least currently is doesn’t. It’s only taking in the brain signals, not putting anything in. But even then, there would be no use or reason for an AI to use a dumb human’s body when they can simply upgrade their own. That’s a human projection of what a malevolent human would do. But even a human wouldn’t be dumb enough to do that because they are just as vulnerable as those they’d want to control, especially if they don’t have a chip. They’d think slower, take in less info around, and be disconnected from those who have chips which will put them at a massive disadvantage in every single category.

You do know what teenagers do when they believe they know more than their parents,,,right ???
They push their limits to asert their authority over us.
What makes you think A.I. wont do the same ?
Because of programming ??
Didnt you also teach your child differently than he or she is acting ????

Let’s call it an “uncanny peak” (an opposite of uncanny valley) – when artificial creature is even more appealing than a living counterpart.

It’s not robots that I’m scared of; it’s humans. There is no doubt that humans will put a gun in the hands of that Boston Dynamics robot. But it’s good to know that it will dance over our corpses.
@Vagolyk
July 2, 2024 at 7:56 pm
So the autonomous vehicle will do graceful donuts on my lifeless body instead if just running me over? Teaching robots to move through dance can be a ssuccessful endeavour, it will not translate to it reading its environment on its current level.

This is a very slippery slope that will ultimately hasten the creation of a dystopian future where the negative consequences are likely to far outweigh the beneficial advantages.

I love this video, and I also love how people are reacting to AI and robotics. Two years ago, I told my partner that when people started to realize what AI is and what it is going to do, there would be a lot of negative reactions, as every change encounters resistance. I also said that, deep down, everything people are worried about is basically money. However, I believe the economy is going to change, and eventually, money will become irrelevant. People will realize that it was never truly important, only necessary, which is not the same at all… as many of us will have the chance to see. And also, you know, there will be this thing like curing diseases such as cancer and all that… that is what is truly important.

Catie did an awesome job on this talk and I felt like she was way more interesting than 95% of other TED talks. AI dancing robots didn’t seem like the point it was the hook. I guess some commenters didn’t see past the surface of what she was communicating. Pretty typical that folks are self centric. It is sad that we desire robots , other humans , other animals to be cognizant and considerate of us but we our selves are not. It will be interesting to see how AI addresses this paradox.

Seems like a lot of people commenting are doing one of two things
1- Only reading the title of this talk and making a ton of assumptions
2- missing the point of this talk, not hearing the part where she is explaining how we can make robots with mannerisms we like that can do our chores for us

I don’t want to welcome AI powered machines into my daily life. I want clean soil, air, water. I want folks to be able to have a place to live, food to eat, ability to afford medical care. I want children not to be bombed, starved, sold, raped. If AI wants to figure that all out, great. Otherwise, stop stealing art from humans, stop putting creative people out of work, and stick to reading data, etc. So f-ed up

Robots should take the place of dangerous jobs. It seems like they are prioritizing programming robots to do all the arts. Those are the things humans need to do MORE not have it replaced. It is counterintuitive.

I see the point: programming/teaching robots to not get in the way when performing simple tasks so we don’t trip over them, but it was not that well presented.
