Yea, but will my Bluetooth stay connected?

And “75mm driver for better bass” lol “and you can pair left and right” look we put then at different heights because no one involved in this review understands anything about audio. The fact the volume levels were compared at relative positions sorta proves no one here understands objective data lol.

Did she just say the Nest Hub has good audio quality? It is by far the worst sounding speaker I’ve ever heard in my life. Definitely comparable to the $25 nano bluetooth speakers on the market. Like the JBL Clip, etc. Anyone getting a Nest Hub is doing it for the screen not the sound.

Why doesn’t Google have AUX outs? There is still no true successor for the Chromecast Audio

Is it cynical to suggest that they simply don’t want people using their actually *good sounding* conventional stereos as a back end for Internet media? Because these ‘smart speakers’ overall represent a cheap, often hyped-sounding mediocrity that reminds me of nothing so much as the old, crappy sounding boom boxes of a generation or two ago. Such systems really can’t compete — on a sound basis — with the classic hi fi systems of the second half of the 20th century. And I’m a pretty high tech, definitely digital-centric guy. But, as a near lifelong audio enthusiast (and former studio engineer), I can tell you: you’re not going to get hi fi out of these things. Convenience, sure. But real quality sound? Forget about it.

Can you stream a youtube stream (not music) , like Lofi or any other 24/7 music stream?

    • Devin Maciel

      October 5, 2020 at 5:06 pm

You can stream anything from the Chrome browser. You can also send YouTube audio from your desktop or phone to the speaker.

You said no usb c or headphone jack on any of their speaker products… but the home max has usb c and a headphone jack

Dang I really thought this was a smart bluetooth speaker. Finding out it didn’t have an aux port or USB-C made me not want to buy this anymore

lol why do you care about the colume at a specific percentage being lower than the original? You can set the volume individually, it does not matter.

If Apple made the same exact speaker. Title “Apple Audio review: Is this the best speaker ever made!?!?!”

I have never been able to add my Chromecast to a speaker group, so it’s direct AUX jack for me. I’d love to get it going to my Max and Chromecast Audio from the record player though.

Google Home Max has both USB-C charging and an auxiliary input. Terrible audio quality on this video too. Cmon CNET! >:(

She could really use a lav mic instead of the one built into the camera.

Why even bother talking about the sound? People aren’t going to want this for its sound. And, it seems quite apparent the sound — as captured in the vid, run through YT’s aggressive, sound-grinding data compression — is far from hi fi. One supposes that most folks want a ‘smart speaker’ as a convenience tool. I would have preferred to find out more about that aspect. Leave hi fi to people who actually care about sound. Google only cares about reaching markets and extending their commercial reach. There’s nothing wrong with that, at least as American corporate commerce goes, but it’s hard to imagine someone who cares about good quality audio is going to be satisfied listening to this or any of the other mainstream smart speakers from Amazon, Apple, or Alphabet anyplace but in the kitchen or bathroom.

When is google going to fix the Bluetooth disconnect problem with their other speakers? Will never buy another speaker from google.

Me: Umm I don’t know about that
Google: We’ll make the wiretap pretty and you have to pay $100 for it

The Google executives who decided to bring this product into the world, should be fired.
Who needs a new speaker with a better sound, but no screen and costs the same as Google Nest Hub?
Just improve the quality sound of the Google Nest Hub…
I would understand the idea if it was ment to replace the Mini Nest and cost 40$.

Audio enthusiast? Maybe they want to convert someone who have traditional JBL speaker to convert to Smart Speaker

This looks like an Apple HomePod…lesser quality ..

Bluetooth needs to maintain the connection or it’s another miss on this.

To be this product is just… Confusing. Where does it fit in? Is this better or worse than the Home Max?

  32. Frank

it sounds like it has less real bass and that the bass has been artificially enhanced so sounds more tinny

Noone is going to take a review of an audio product seriously when the review itself is recorded with poor audio. How are we supposed to take her word for it whilst simultaneously she is demonstrating her poor understanding of audio to us?

I can’t believe they left the bloopers in at the end of the video 😂

I would rather spend the extra $100 and get a sonos speaker. Music sounds WAY better app is better and you can have the choice of eitger Google or Alexa for the assistant

  48. MrAcura28

    October 7, 2020 at 11:19 pm

Does this speaker have air play 2?

  49. Wayne Putterill

    October 8, 2020 at 8:09 am

Hilariuosly pointless, the volume comparison omitted the ONLY test that would have made any sense – max volume. This showed technical understanding on the level of 11 is louder than 10.

    i think she’s confusing gain and volume…
