You’re forgetting their statement is because of game budget. And it’s global, sounds weird all I’m saying is if tariffs ever go away you still won’t see the price go down because of greed

@VectorAlphaSec  if XBox was made in America they wouldn’t have a tariff. They rather use Chinese slave labor and now we are supposed to be mad that they raised the price. No we are mad cuz they aren’t made in America!

Video game prices should have gone up about a decade ago. Compare prices for original Nintendo games in 1986. Adjust for inflation. Now try 15 years later with the PS2 or GameCube. Adjust for inflation.

Prices have been too low for too long. A $50 game from the year 2000 is the same as a game for about $85 today. But all these kids are crying about raising the price from $60. Then, they cry when games try to find other ways to monetize to make money.

It costs more to make a game now than 20 years ago or 35 years ago. But, if you adjust for inflation the games themselves are selling for less.

      May 1, 2025 at 10:21 pm

Although you are 100% correct about inflation, the problem is that minimum wages aren’t adjusted with said inflation.

    • @zero11010

      May 1, 2025 at 10:50 pm

@ I can’t do this for all 50 states. In California where I am (10% of the population is here) minimum wage was $5.25/hr in the year 2000. To buy a brand new game for $50 took 9.5 hours of work at a minimum wage job flipping burgers or whatever. Today minimum wage for people at McDonald’s in California is $20/hr. To buy a $70 game is 3.5 hours of work. If that game was $80 it would be 4 hours of work.

But, every aspect of making the game is more expensive.
