@ColtsFan4Life 35 and you overestimate Apple’s market research…they wont price it at 3k so more people will get it…the more people who has it, the more developers will support it

The problem was meta thought people wanted vr for anything other than gaming. I think they learned there lesson

Unfortunately, gamers are still a low priority for Meta.
Also, in my opinion there is currently a market to use HMD’s as a multi monitor replacement but the resolution was too low on the Quest Pro to cut it.

I might be wrong on this, people from the future will know this.
I don’t think there is going to be a Meta Quest 3. I think Meta Quest Pro is the Meta Quest 3.
Regarding Apple VR:
I don’t think Apple going to either release a VR, AR, or Mix Reality headset or glasses.
Why?
Everybody has been waiting for up to 10 or more years for the following.
Apple TV (4k tv set)
Apple Car (not apple car play, an actual vehicle)

Why tf would there not be a quest 3? The quest 2 has already been a massive success, it’s already been confirmed the quest 3 is coming soon and there have been multiple leaks

@angrynooblets34 @paulpivaral4832 Meta/Facebook has yet to announce or confirmed Oculus/Meta Quest 3.
However, they did confirmed that the are working on a budget headset.
They never said it was Meta/Oculus Quest 3.
When everybody was expecting Facebook to announce Meta Quest 3, they had announced and released Meta Quest Pro instead.
If or when they officially announced Meta Quest 3, treat everything else as rumors.

This was a decent overview of the headset from a standalone perspective, but kind of missed the point for why high end enthusiasts are starting to really appreciate the Quest Pro – high end PCVR.
I have had 7 VR headsets, including high resolution PCVR displayport HMD’s like the Vive Pro 2 and Reverb G2. They look like absolute trash compared to the Quest Pro when the Pro is running on a wired connection on a 13900k, 4090 PC. It is absolutely one of the best PCVR experiences that you can have right now. There is only a single commercially available headset, the Varjo Aero that can currently rival the visual fidelity of the Quest Pro for wired PCVR. The Pimax Crystal and Bigscreen Beyond will also be outstanding visually, but they aren’t released yet.
I feel this overview misses the point of what makes the Quest Pro a great choice for high end PCVR gaming.
Larger FOV than the Quest 2
Much better lenses give edge to edge clarity and a vastly improved visual experience over every fresnel headset, including PSVR 2 (when connected to a PC obviously)
Quantum dot layer to enhance colours and contrast, which really pop on the Quest Pro.
Local dimming for true blacks. This is now globally available on all PC apps via the link connection and looks amazing.
Best in class tracking and controllers that self track thanks to having their own cameras and Snapdragon 662 processor
Improved sound quality with spatial audio (still a little quieter than I’d like though)
Face and eye tracking, Full face and eye tracking works in VRChat, a big deal for social VR players
Foveated Rendering eye tracking IS now working in many PCVR titles via the OpenXR toolkit, including my personal favourite title Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Overall there is nothing on the market currently to rival the Quest Pro for high end PCVR gaming, and the $999 is frankly a steal relative to the other high end HMD’s, the Valve Index £919 full kit, Vive Pro 2 £1300 full kit, Varjo Aero £1900 headset + £600 for required base stations, controllers and audio solution.
This is what reviewers seem to miss about this headset. They review it based on its standalone offering, but don’t judge it for its PCVR merits where it absolutely shines.
This is now the only headset I find useable, everything else has been dumped and I’ll continue to use this until a decent pancakke lens/microOLED headset with a decent FOV is released, probably towards the end of 2024.

When the price dropped by 500 i got one. I love it and it is now my daily used headset. You have to put it on and use it to understand how good that head set is.

I agree, I upgraded recently and love using it for productivity as well. I’ve started making content around it. I’ll be excited when the cameras look better in future iterations

At $1000 we aren’t going to buy it? That was uncalled for. I bought one from the price drop and it’s amazing with a better screen than quest 3 will have and likely better controller tracking and face and eye tracking. I use this for pcvr and it is now widely respected as the best pcvr headset. Know your audience. Valve index users spent over $1000 on their very headset years ago. This is better than the index in almost every way.

VR is, at least, 5-10 years from becoming mainstream. They need to be half the size and twice as powerful at a minimum.

@PED Garage The problem is there’s no Steve Jobs to guide this. It’s a bunch of Gates and Ballmers trying to figure out how to make VR/AR mainstream. Reminds me of pre-iPhone cellphones.
PED Garage
March 31, 2023 at 2:29 pm
@Kris B it’s easy. Stop focusing on the hardware and start focusing on the software. The hardware to software ratio of VR is insane. In the last 10 years there have been more headset than full fledged games or application

The controllers are waaay better than what the Q3 is expected to have. You can play with a sunbeam shining on part of your body and it won’t lose tracking or track incorrectly. I think that is worth mentioning because there are some conditions where the Q2 controllers struggle.

It’s worth noting that the people who are criticizing the $1000 price tag of the Quest headset are often the same ones who wouldn’t hesitate to purchase Apple’s equivalent with identical specifications, even if it costs several thousand dollars more

if people made their buying decisions based on tech reviews, they’d never buy anything because they would always hold off for the next version of something and ALWAYS be waiting 😂

I just went from the 1 to the pro. They both feel very good quality. I loved the blacks of the 1 but the visual quality of this one is amazing. Specially when the game makes use of the dimming zones. It’s not very comfortable but you can make adjustments watching a couple of videos online. I’m only bummed that there hasn’t been any software development whatsoever and that the processor is old. I really want to use it for work, but there’s not much to do… No one is there.

Nice, fair commentary on VR headsets. Quest 3 will only get Quest 2 upgraders at least. People who have not used VR before have NO idea what they are missing out on. It’s DMT on your face
