Meet the Jetracer That’s Powered by 10 Jet Engines
With one seat and 10 jet engines, Zapata’s Jetracer looks intimidating. However, its onboard flight controller promises to make it easy enough for ‘anybody’ to fly it. The elephant in the room is that there is no lower level airspace……Please clearly state to all viewers where the exttra airspace will come from ? Are you on a different planet ?
The usa government has ruled out all lower airspace expansion as a controlled airspace system in the USA would cost the taxpayer over 200 billion dollars. Clearly there are reasons why these are NOT been developed by investors…

It did not do a barrel-roll, it did a roll by spinning about its longitudinal axis. A barrel roll starts with a shallow dive for speed then a climb while rolling about the longitudinal axis and allowing the nose of the craft to drop to the horizon where you recover to level flight. Done correctly the flight path follows the shape of a barrel, the wooden type with curved sides bulging outward. As for being a commuter craft you will first have to get a pilots license, that alone will discourage most people. Only about 6% of people in the US have a license. However I can envision a dedicated area where anyone could fly it for recreation and be protected by buffer zones and automation.

1) Oh, ffs, man. A roll is a roll. Don’t be that guy.
2) 6%??! Where in god’s name did you pull this number from? It defies common sense, and some admittedly quick googling suggests it’s closer to 0.2%.
You seem like you know more about flying than the average person. Please, for all of us, take the time to get your facts right, because people are going to trust what you say. Have a great day!

Cool device. It will probably will be too noisy for run of the mill transport as the smaller the blades the noisier the engine.

Do you have to get your private pilot license to fly a zapata? Do you file a flight plan? Does it have an instrument panel to see storms? That might be interesting to fly.

Non-electric flying vehicles have the advantage of long flight times, turbine engines have a large lag time between changing thrust levels, electric motors have excellent throttle responce times but terrible short flight times. When batteries can deliver better power to weight ratios, electrics could replace hydrocarbon based motors.

December 27, 2022 at 4:32 pm
Not all jet engines have a lag time. Only turbofan engines need time to spool up because the thrust fan is separate from the powertrain, and with new technology in clutches that has even shorten.
Nixter_is_Nick
December 27, 2022 at 7:09 pm
@heliopilot1 I think you may have meant to say that some jet engines have a low lag time. electric motors have a much lower lag time than jet engines, that was my point.
