You’re still whinging about icons having shadows? Bringing back elements of Steve Job’s classic iPhone UI design is not a bad thing. “Skeuomorphism” is a word most people never heard before a few tech journalists started complaining about it.
Maybe you should take a look at the design of your own website? Nearly illegible headlines in white text on top of photos…

Well, hope you like to pay +1000$ for that privacy. Oh wait, it spies on you and disables apps to be launched when the Apple servers are unresponsive/down? And you can’t install any other os? Hmm, the data is also unencrypted and send to your isp then a third party cdn provider and finally Apple?
Ok, idk i think I’m going to still buy it because i love Ap- oh what the Government can access that data and stop apps from being opened. Not my problem, I’m a apple sheep and me buy apple products everyday.

I’m an icon designer/ui designer, I’ve worked on skeuomorphic apps and icons in the past, then did the flat design, years later, flat is also dated. The difference in the skeuomorphic look, back then the icons were too glossy/glassy look.

Good video, way too long. And mate you don’t need to talk about the icons that you hate for a few minutes. Glad you can read off a specs paper. Also you should do your research before making the video, copy paste between devices has been around a long time, new safari was available a little while ago. Think I just wasted 11 minutes of my life.

Maybe I shouldn’t have wasted 10 minutes updating the Catalina software to find out there’s a new system two minutes later 😑

Flat design from 2013 isn’t modern. In the technology world, it’s rather dated.

The graphic performance is really poor on my 2015 Mac Pro. Even the dock is laggy.

I really like Big Sur thus far – very snappy on my MBP 13 2018 – there’s just one thing I don’t like – where is the calculator widget? Used that all the time – very annoying as is the absence of a calculator on the iPad… one wonders why….

Just realised they’ve changed the music icon from ‘iTunes’ to ‘music’ on MacBook. It’s TOO reminiscent of an iPad/iPhone now! Spent an hour looking for the iTunes tab after upgrading OS!!! 😡

I’m sorry but I don’t think flatter means easier on the eyes. I think that Mac icons have a deep history in craftsmanship and detail and flat would ruin them. Neumorphic design is the future.

04:27 to remove the icon you dragged from menu bar, hold Command and drag the icon downwards, wait a second and a X icon should appear over the icon. Release the mouse and the icon should vanish

Your awesome point with widgets to use the entire screen is fantastic! It’s almost like you don’t remember how widgets were on Mac OSX. But they removed it because people didn’t use them. Google Mac OS X Dashboard.

I buy my first MacBook this year and my ask is: this MacOS Big Sur will work good on my 2017 MacBook Air ?
Jacob B
November 14, 2020 at 11:43 pm
Should work fine might be a bit slower until it’s optimized better, 2017 MacBook Air runs okay but lacks power for most things besides basic web browsing and word applications.

Every 5 years they go from flat icons to shadowed, dimensional icons (the flat icons were so dated), and then they go back to the flat icons (the dimensional icons were so dated). Each time they act like they ‘figured it out’. The cycle will continue…

I hate this flat design. Everything looks the same. I
Love the leather contact book, this what make book in first glance.
Maybe too deep embose efect is applied but finally they looks like 21 centres, not like drawn in ms paint.

is anybody having thermal problems with this upgrade? I just upgraded yesterday on my 2017 MB Air and I was constantly reaching near 100ºC on my processors, even with fans at full speed and basically no workload, just booting the laptop and letting it “rest” for a few minutes. I had to restore with Time Machine to Catalina and, surprise surprise, that “ghostbuster” icon appears so I had to reinstall that very same version of Catalina. Honestly it was such a pain to upgrade to Big Sur and I’m sort of afraid to do so unless I know there is not more thermal problem with it, at least on my laptop version.

I dissagree with the satement that they put much effort into the macOS. When looking at just the mac apart from the ecosystem the only upgrades mentioned are the visual and the slight changes to safari. I cannot send the route to my phone the same way because that phone is no Iphone.

Thank you, so now I can give Safari a new go. BUT my printer refused to cooperate with BigSur. Very sad. I deleted it in system preferences and added it back – now choosing “generic” as the driver, and everything was fine again (useful for older printers). By the way, I discovered the review because a friend told me you had some groundbreaking books on your shelf. In these corona-times me to scrutinizes peoples bookshelves …

Funny about the icons, I see nothing “ugly” or eye weary about the new icons. I kind of like them. To each their own I guess. All that said, Big Sur is running well on my early-2015 MacBook Air. I like that. Will have to check out Safari because I stopped using it precisely because of the Tabs issue. Just cumbersome. Chrome tab management works for me. If Safari has improved that I will take a look see. Thanks for the review, but ease up on the icons.
