LG managed to engineer a system that rips through a full ten pound load in about ninety minutes. Cutting thirty minutes off the previous record is not just a minor tweak; it is a massive engineering win that proves you no longer need two separate machines taking up space in your house.
LG’s Signature Series washer-dryers have AI load detection so it senses how large or small a load you’re washing and adjusts the water usage and drying time accordingly. It also has smart detergent and fabric softener dispensers, so you’ll only ever use just enough and never too much.
Pricing and launch date for LG’s washer-dryer combo were not made available, but LG told me it will be early in 2026. The previous model retails for north of $2,000. I expect this model to launch with a tag closer to $3,000. #washerdryer #lg #lgsignature #smarthome #washeranddryer

Definitely sounds like the term AI is being misused here.
A little if logic and some memory isn’t real AI. This sounds like 1980s level video game logic. That’s not “AI” by today’s standards.
This doesn’t need to connect to server farms to try and figure out that if half the weight of clothing is inside … maybe use less water and dry for less time.

@YaFaceIsMine it feels like this is stuff CNET should identify. They’re reporting on these things. They should be aware of when the term is being misused and alert people to that.
Otherwise, all they are is advertisement for products.
I’ve seen SAAS products using AI to handle 100,000s-10,000,000s of things and learn rapidly from what is going on. These don’t function like LLMs, but they are keeping track of very large amounts of data and making systemic adjustments through learning, rather than from predetermined paths.
For this use case … nothing even remotely like that is needed.
This is AI like Pac-Man had AI.

It will be in need of repair in three months I guarantee with all that tech on it. They still haven’t figured it out yet. We don’t want lowest bidder NASA doing our laundry. We just want clean clothes.
