I guess I’m keeping my SE for a little while longer. Or perhaps cell carriers will provide decent deals to make it more palatable.

You can get the 16E for $300 right now on some carriers. I’m sure 17E will be the same

That’s unfortunate they’re putting in MagSafe. Because of my father in law’s pacemaker I have to get him a phone that doesn’t have magnets. He currently has an iPhone SE which is perfect for him and his budget. As you can imagine he balks at paying more than a couple hundred for a phone.

Why did Apple think that for $599, you need A19 CPU, magsafe, N1 and C1X modem only? What truly people need for iPhone 17e, is it magsafe and faster modems only?
I think nowadays, people are wise and need something that can justify their money. Smartphone are the same year after year there’s no another revolutionary mobile phone like the first iPhone since 2007.
Without phone revolution, people needs much storage and big batteries.
It is the reason why people needs 256gb base storage for iPhone 17e. Thx!

I used Apple invites for the first time earlier this year. And most of my friends couldn’t see or open the invite? So most of them RSVPed through regular texts. And then I had to send a regular text reminder to everybody. So not a great experience, unfortunately.

  8. @Royce16727

    February 6, 2026 at 12:24 pm

I’ve never gotten an apple invite, and honestly I’d probably just rather get a text unless the Apple invite automatically created an event in my Google calendar.

The worst thing about the 16e is that there is zero trade-in value. Grrr.

    • @9852323

      February 6, 2026 at 5:48 pm

The 16 E isn’t meant for people who trade in and buy new phones every year or 2 it’s meant for cheap long term use

I am currently using iPhone 16e and I came from iPhone 7 this phone has everything for me I have never used promotion Dynamic Island MagSafe etc so they don’t bother me this one is reliable that’s is the crucial part for me even though I paid almost 44.000 Turkish lira = 1000$ this was the cheapest new iPhone for me so yeah if you live somewhere like turkey and want a simple reliable relatively cheap brand new iPhone this is the way to go 🫡

  18. @TheWolfHowling

    February 6, 2026 at 5:19 pm

IMHO, the 17e is a bit of a nothing burger with little compelling reasons to exist. Sure, it might add a few Quality of Life features, such as MagSafe & the Center Stage FFC, but its fundamentals will be largely unchanged. Compared to the 16e, the 17e will have basically the same display but maybe with a hole punch instead of a notch, An A19 instead of the A18 that was already more than fine for the needs of buyers in this price range, same thing with the Apple modem, more than adequate for requirements, and a near identical single rear camera. It is my belief that it would be better for everyone, including Apple, to simply discount the 16e to $499 as a “last Generation product”, similar to how it does with the previous generation of standard iPhones when the new ones release, and keep selling it for another 12 months, don’t even bother releasing 17e.

  19. @Macadelic10x

    February 6, 2026 at 5:20 pm

    So 17E is legit??

  20. @perhapsme988

    February 6, 2026 at 5:42 pm

Ive got 16e as my first iPhone.
17e and indeed all 17 phones might have this NEW feature to surprise all :

The main cameras (1,2 or all 3) will have Centre Stage features even holding the phone vertically.

Indeed it might be that LANDSCAPE might be the default mode for all those back cameras to allow the vertical holding of phone which is how most people hold phone taking pic or videos.

If Apple doesn’t do this, some Android phone brand will do it this year I am sure.

Apple leaks a lot of features for upcoming version of products. They always leave one surprise. So to me back cameras with Landscape mode as default should be the surprise.

If i am right snd this Landscape mode is the default, bye be TikTok at least for their current stupid format.

  21. @9852323

    February 6, 2026 at 5:47 pm

What it needs is to be cheaper. It would’ve been awesome if they just slapped a headphone jack and an A19 chip on the iPhone SE 3 and sell that instead. Would be the perfect phone

  22. @turbyoulance

    February 6, 2026 at 6:29 pm

APPLE are a headcase. I am so glad that I am out of their eco system and nonsense. After mySE2020 got bricked by updating to ios 26 from ios 18 I had to throw my iPhone in the bin. Thanks for that . I went out and bought myself a moto G15 for about $110.00 USD and I have never been happier. As for the 16E it won the worst phone of the year award for 2025 so in what universe would anyone buy this 17 E ?

  23. @Steve-racer

    February 6, 2026 at 6:35 pm

My question is this. Most people purchase their phone through their carrier. You can get a free iPhone or iPhone Pro Max for free when you’re on a contract. Most people do not have a home phone, they’re cellular phone is their primary phone. they’re always gonna make the monthly payment. Why would you settle for the 17 E?

  24. @skyMcWeeds

    February 6, 2026 at 6:50 pm

The 16e will be a best seller once the 17e comes out. If I can get an iPhone for $300-$350 price range for an 16e which will get years of updates that’s a steal. Don’t care about Dynamic Island or MagSafe. Just like having a simple iPhone that’s affordable and gets the job done

  28. @wateriver

    February 6, 2026 at 10:47 pm

Last year boost Mobile was running a promotion where if you bought a phone at full retail prize of at least $300 you got a free year of service. iPhone 16 was $599 plus a free year of service under $25 plan and the phone basically came out to $300. And since it was bought at full retail price my phone was unlocked about a week later on its own. If you have good AT&T coverage, don’t care for personal hotspot and aren’t someone who cares about the latest and greatest, this is a good buy.

  29. @omoighejustice594

    February 7, 2026 at 1:01 am

120hz isn’t a complicated tech, it’s also not money consuming.
I get that apple users don’t really care about specs but this is just stupid. 60hz in 2026, when 100$ budget phones from small companies like Itel has 144hz.

    • @omoighejustice594

      February 7, 2026 at 1:03 am

This phone would have been good for someone coming from the 14-16 series, but that 60hz just complicates everything.
I can only recommend this to someone using an iPhone 11 and 12 and even then a used 15, 16 and 17 pro max’s would be better if you’re trying to save money.
      So what’s the need?

    16e isn’t pricey I bought mine for 1
$189 brand new lol best iPhone EVER, cheap af, and the exact software experience! I don’t have social media, and could care less about a camera on my phone when I own a canon. Battery last alllll day, and theirs no lag, 60 refresh rate enough for me, I come from the era of bar phones so I’m forever grateful. I’m not going to nitpick features tha realistically brings no value to my life ! The iPhone 16e still lets me put all my investments in so I’m cool.

  38. @dakotacrawford948231

By the way in Canada it’s 899$ so it’s way higher than the US price. 😮 And seriously who use Siri, Gemini, Alexa, Chat GPT, Claude etc etc etc. I hate AI and I miss the time where people’s were able to do their stuff all by themselves.

  54. @DsTux

    February 8, 2026 at 6:13 am

I think if apple wants to make a cheaper version of iPhone, some concessions needs to be made. In my opinion to improve, the 17e could put the same screen of 16, 60Hz with dynamic island, keep the same aluminum frame, put a 12mp ultra-wide camera from the 14 (not the best, but very handy), put magsafe, keep the same front facing camera, the back glass could be a cheaper material like polycarbonate or vegan leather like Motorola is doing (very good grip in the hands) with a stainless steel apple logo at the center, will be very cool, and for the last, could keep the same SOC, that is pretty competent and can still be updated for at least 5 or 6 years

  55. @bjkortor

  56. @rgseidl67

The iPhone e product line would make sense for (parents of) teenagers IFF the price were $429 as before. Half an iPhone at 75% of the price isn’t a good value proposition.

Bring back the form factor of the mini, stick in a low power processor, up the wireless charging to 15W, give it ok battery life and drop that price point.

PS: What’s an Apple Invite? Never sent one, never got one.
