Fast M4 chip, Pencil Pro, OLED, and larger screens across the board: you can go Pro, or you can go Air. Either way, it’s quite an investment.

The apple pen incompatibility issue is just so stupid. They are now selling and supporting 4 (!!!) different apple pencils, each only working with select ipads.

Why is this so bad? How does this affect you personally in such a drastic way? Do you need help in choosing?

How long can it be used outside at full brightness before it gets too hot and dims the display? That’s my biggest frustration with all Apple devices.

I feel like people are looking at the iPad lineup wrong. The iPad Air is like the standard iPhone. Perfect for most. The pro is like the pro, and the 10th-generation iPad is like the SE model. Reviewers keep comparing the regular iPad to the MacBook lineup and get confused about the iPad lineup. If you need an iPad, probably get an Air. If you want most of the functionality but don’t want to spend the money, get the 10th gen iPad. If you need the power, get the pro.

i’m not a creative so having macOS mode is a nice thing to have. the ipad apps are just so limited (especially when it comes to doing and running code)

Scott (or anyone else) please explain to me this: I have an iPad, which I use a lot for 3D modeling and illustration. But I also have a MacBook because I need it to use apps that don’t have an iPadOS counterpart (apps like Lightburn, PrusaSlicer, and some Arduino and Raspberry Pi mini apps). The question is, I thought Apple was going to eliminate the differences by making iPadOS apps run on MacOS with no issues. But the reverse is what I need. I need to run MacOS apps on iPadOS. Why hasn’t this happened yet? Are they just trying to protect their MacBook sales or is this something that developers are responsible for?

Very lame Apple tactics to force the upgrade to the “pro” pencil for both the new iPad models. Not surprising, just frustrating.

New iPad Pro cons
▫️Apple removed the 2nd rear camera
🔸Apple removed 1 studio microphone
🔹Apple Pencil 2 won’t work with it
🔻Existing Magic Keyboard won’t work with it
🔺The M4 chip in the 256 and 512 GB models is a binned one with lower CPU and performance cores than getting an 1T or 2T model which has the fully unlocked M4 chip.

It’s not about the iPad running Mac OS full time. It’s about having the option to flip into Mac OS when necessary or when docked and then flip back to iPadOS for 95% of computing needs.
iPad OS should be sandboxed to run enterprise BYOD applications (outlook / M365). Apple will need to consider that.
Gives you a fully featured Mac and docked desktop with 5G connectivity and 7-10 hours of battery. Take my money.
They now have four years and a reasonable amount of iPad Pros out that they can release the Mac OS option only on M1+ devices. The rest run iPadOS full time. This makes sense and makes their pricing line up nicely.
MacBook Air is $799. iPad Air+Magic Keyboard is $999. Their pricing lines up very nicely across models.

It’s called product diversification. What is the point of having a Macbook Air and an iPad running Mac OS. It will create the same scenario as the Mac Pro and the Mac Studio. Why spend the money on a Mac Pro with it’s up-gradable architecture that Apple will not let you fully utilize when you can have a just as capable Mac Studio which is cheaper. Either the Mac Pro or the Mac Studio needs to disappear (it will likely be the Mac Pro … it always seems that Apple hates the Mac Pro … the main reason I switched to PCs in 2015). Replacing the MacBook Air with the iPad Pro will tick off those that want the MacBook Air. It will also anger those that hate Mac OS, but love the iPad (I am in that camp). Maybe what needs to happen is a better cross development system between the Mac Apps and the iPad apps, and maybe some advancement of the iPad OS so that it feels like an iPad, but has more of the directory structure and features of Mac OS …. Otherwise good luck with that because no matter what Apple does someone is going to advocate for the option Apple abandons.

I don’t think that Apple will ever release any touchscreen device that runs Mac OS. Steve Jobs was against touchscreen laptops, and I don’t see Apple deviating from that.
