I was so excited about the general concept of the Blackfly. The sheer simplicity of it. Still, the pricing and the abysmal range kind of ruins it for me. Lets hope Pivotal stays afloat long enough to dramatically improve on both.

I think the scary thing is we have been driving for centuries yet people are terrible at it. I worry that these startups are going to be crushed by idiots doing stupid things in them and crashing them if they go main stream. Love the tech and something I’d be personally interested in

TBH Mobile phones were just as limited when they first appeared in the 80s, and AI flight support systems may enable mass use. Amazing work.

    I love Blackfly

Wow, not only did we get UAP evidence, we can also pilot them. Mystery solved.

So then there are still UAP’s out there because none of them match this flying black fly description at all.

Have you been in a helicopter? Use to commute on one to work. This is not like a helicopter

I am a Cessna private pilot and I find these technological advances great! Being able to democratize light aviation is really a noble cause ! Great job, I love it 👏🎉👍

I’m stupidly stoked about these private multicopters. You have to trust the control laws to keep you alive but they could be the future of personal transport.

      November 23, 2024 at 1:59 pm

Once we have full self driving AI, all of this will be easy and open up to way more people

Just like electric cars range anxiety would be horrendous. Especially if you can only fly for 10 min then have to return. Plus where do you charge it if you cant fly over populated areas. Its a great demonstrator. And with a fuel cell or similar might be a superb compromise. Also, its just me, but i.m not a fan of needing so many little high pitched props. Better with 3 ducted fans that gimble and tilt

    • @gary3074

      November 23, 2024 at 2:50 pm

Range anxiety is only for people who can’t do basic math….

  14. @shutinalley

    November 23, 2024 at 9:49 am

Can it just fly itself? Then fly away when i don’t need it.

AI + Flying Cars = Future

    • @CJayyTheCreative

      November 23, 2024 at 2:00 pm

This is it. When people say we don’t need flying cars because it’s too dangerous they completely forget about the logical structure that AI will provide

@@CJayyTheCreativeexactly until you piss it off or the elites that control the range and you’ll suddenly be reading about yourself in the obituaries 😂

  25. @GiHubb

    November 23, 2024 at 10:41 pm

Death machine! And even if it isn’t, a 20 minute flight time just isn’t close to enough

  26. @Thecribchillin

    November 24, 2024 at 12:06 am

I see a bare bones, back pack, wearable battery and fan. Just enough for personal flight and maybe a couple bags of groceries. You could truly be like a bird.
    Every kid dreams of flying!

  27. @dsbaehler

    November 24, 2024 at 3:57 am

I would fly one without hesitation. Sign me up!

  28. @echoscorpion

Wait, the FAA even not allowed people to fly drones around airports. How come this flying behavior requires NO AVIATION LICENSE??!! As an FAA ATP I just can’t feel good about it.

  29. @RichTallent

    November 24, 2024 at 9:09 am

Can you imagine just seeing an owner flying past you when out on a hike somewhere!
Wow what an amazing experience this looks. Thanks for bringing to my attention Cnet.

    • @damonhtoo

      November 24, 2024 at 1:06 pm

You say that like it’s a good thing. I can’t even stand the people that use Bluetooth speakers while hiking. Even small multirotors are *loud*.

  30. @bobhawkey3783

    November 24, 2024 at 10:48 am

This very cool. Having said that, a commercial quality drone with POV headset would set you back $20K and be safer. The experience would be a little diminished. Then again Ferrari wouldn’t sell any cars if it was that simple. ❤

    November 24, 2024 at 12:48 pm

All it takes is one small bird

  32. @vikramdesh1

    November 24, 2024 at 12:54 pm

Why does it need to take off and land at an angle to the ground?

  33. @Vincent-l6z

    November 24, 2024 at 6:41 pm

This is not a technical upgrade. It’s a helicopter. 30 years ago I had a remote control helicopter. This is just bigger. Electric is not the future.

  34. @Vincent-l6z

    November 24, 2024 at 6:43 pm

Nice. Whisper quiet. Soooooooo stupid. Can’t wait for road rage assholes in the air.

  35. @GoneRidingPartsCom

    November 24, 2024 at 9:44 pm

So with all these giant size drones, it’s great, I’m just curious if the weight of the battery and motor is the same as the weight of a gas engine ? Why not use the same design with fuel engine ?

  36. @polyglotinc

    November 25, 2024 at 3:35 am

Filling the (unmarked) sky with unlicensed flyers with 3 days training…what could go wrong? Hey, people drive cars (with marked lanes and traffic lights etc) with no license and only 3 days training, right? Err….

    • @SA-qx7fx

      November 25, 2024 at 10:45 am

It can Only be flown on areas not populated, which means vast acres of privately owned property, which only the uber wealthy can afford

  37. @JesseOrrall

    November 25, 2024 at 2:56 pm

WOW, my stomach was in my throat with that intro lol. Great job Andy & team!
