How much should business leaders speak out about threats to democracy? It’s a question many corporations are wrestling with these days. Business and democracy leader Daniella Ballou-Aares shows why companies have both the ability and the responsibility to engage in protecting elections and the rule of law — and why their bottom lines may depend on doing so.

Remember that one of the slogans of fascism was nothing outside of the state. The use of commerce to punish dissidents is indeed a step in that direction.

The current political crisis is precisely the conspiracy of the professional managerial class to impose its will on the demos.

Perhaps this individual never heard of or read The Powell memo. . .ignorance is bliss eh?. . Or perhaps took a good shot at reading Citizens United. Handed Corporations the stake that help destroye Representative Democracy in my opinion. Business leaders renewing democracy?. ..like handing a tree an axe to chop itself down.

She keeps citing this strange god , ‘democracy’; the US is a corporate oligharchy and has been since John Adams’ time. In light of that this whole post appears as empty emo verbage -unfortunately.

Just seeing the title and i knew this was not gonna be something i agreed with… With business owners having a spectrum of beliefs ranging from idealistic to authoritarian or outright prejudiced, I don’t think centralizing power further into the hands of the monetarily controlling class is a good idea. Musk himself regurgitated anti-semetic rhetoric on the platform he now owns… normalizing the fundamental problems we have with finances already governing politics (no pun intended) which unironically already harm a majority of people to benefit a minority of them, as well as further harming marginalized groups seems like the worst possible option.

How about they start within their own companies, some Democracy in the Workplace, to show their commitment? Convert to worker co-ops, or even just allow union or worker representatives on their boards? The typical capitalist business is completely authoritarian and has no interest in democracy.

“and wars become far more likely”
Excuse me, do you know who profits from war? Businesses. These days its pretty much only businesses as borders are pretty much set and private businesses are the only ones capable of resource extraction under capitalism (lets get this straight here, “democracy” isnt the problem here, its capitalism).

This sounds like someone is applauding the plutocratic Dictators of the Rich and is trying to gaslight the working class into submission.
Sorry “Gen X”…
but “Gen Alpha” is overwhelmingly positive that capitalism is the main source of all problems, including any form of “illiberal Democracy” to outright neoliberal Dictatorships, which all are just unmasking the rule of the rich in our deformed capitalistic and bourgeoise “Bipartisan Democracy”
And they ask questions… hard one’s
like,
Why do we even HAVE to accept that someone has to die of hunger if we could feed them?
Why do we HAVE to accept that someone gets to be rich by selling food that could have feed those hungry?
Why does someone HAVE to be homeless, if we could house them?
Why do we HAVE to accept that someone gets to be rich by selling Housing, if that housing could have shelter the homeless?
Basically they ask,
Why do we HAVE to accept that some are, by the Birth Lotterie and not by their own merits, be richer and more influential from the get-go then anyone else?
Didn’t we shed ourselves of the divine birthrights of the Kings of old?
And so many more “Why do we HAVE to” that always and always and always only ever seem to benefit those that always tell everyone else that THEY “have to accept”…
And they find answers, uncomfortable ones at that…
Well, uncomfortable for those Rich and in Power
And they don’t toss those answer aside, just because someone says that they didn’t work in the past, they are asking why it didn’t work…
and more importantly,
what has to be done!
to make them work.
And they did find the answers to that crucial how-to-make-it-work
But I think most of the old “Gen Xers” and before won’t like that answers
The Answers are:
Agitate!
Educate!
Organize!
The Revolutionary Communists of America
Go find them!

Imagine a bunch of rich businessmen manipulating the important political figures we democratically elect. Looks like a very good idea, I wonder what the world would look like if that were the case. I bet it would look totally peaceful and very advanced and nothing like our world, right guys?
