it’ll buy you happiness in that one area of life you lack it. It won’t make all of your other problems disappear, but as far as you’re concerned you’ll definitely feel more secure financially.

Financial security is not happiness. It is a fear that you always think about it.

Misleading title. Also success is bot defined only by money. Also it’s not like my genetic make up is my responsibility. 20 seconds in and I’m already angry. Is that the effect positive psych is supposed to have on me?

There are many things in which one can be successful that money is not a goal, losing weight for example, or raising a kid, or building a shed.
I also don’t feel like I won the genetic lottery, me and my mother side of the family are susceptible to depression, but like she said it’s up to me to evaluate how I perceive the environment and most importantly, myself.
For me, it helps to have a simple goal: to be better than my past self.

Easy to say… When you struggle to fake smile while saying it. Clearly your happiness did not meet the happiness of a starving child…

I really liked the “gratitude” aspect of the J game. It’s so simple and keeps you focused on up lifting. Also, the not comparing part is so key. I thought this video would be cheesy but was wrong. Thank you!😊

90% of your happiness is your genetics which drive how you perceive the world. Therefore it’s your fault. What a stupid thing to say.

This is all solid information and backed up by psychology studies. I remember learning a lot of this back in college. If people are interested in learning more, I recommend looking up “The hedonic treadmill,” and the Harvard happiness study.

So money is not happyiness but if I am broke hve past due bills , shut off notices, forclosure so I not be un happy ? If i have money I have better / safier food not Mc Donalds or frozen dinners ect, can keep a dependable car, good out more often, can afford to help other friends and family and give your family a better place to live and thing they need like college education.

This explains why America is the way it is. We always portray happiness by things we want such as cars, houses, or even careers. Other countries especially the Scandinavian countries really just care about the basics and making sure everyone in those countries are taken care of.

Money can’t buy happiness but success certainly can. Success is having a bespoke life, not getting money. Money is only part of it.

Lyubomirsky, Sheldon, & Schkade (2005) for the pie chart of 50% genetic, 40% “intentional activities” (aimed to improve world view), 10% circumstances (environment). Totally random, but I just did a presentation on this. I didn’t get to see the demographic info for the studies tho…

I think the pie graph was meant to represent the amount of happiness we can control. But even then I would swap genetics and environment. You can alter your genetics with diet and exercise (and hormone therapy if you’re into that), but your environment is much more capable of alteration. It starts first with your perspective on life to make these changes though so that’s why that one is the largest.

Nice to know that rule 1 of happiness is socialism. That must be why millions of people over the years have flocked to the United States, to escape the extreme happiness of their socialist countries.
