Google’s own chips may power Pixel, dropping Qualcomm
We talked to Ina Fried of Axios, who broke the story that Google is currently working on its own processors for its Pixel phones and Chromebooks. How could Google drop Qualcomm? Well, it’s working with Samsung. That’s right, Samsung.

if this virus has taught us anything, it’s that its time for laptop webcams to go 4k

At least 1080p. 1080p is fine. Most top-of-the-line laptop webcams are 720p. That’s pretty ridiculous. Even the 1080p ones, like on the Dell XPS 13, still look like garbage. They should use better ISPs. I can understand lower quality lenses though.

1080p is enough, look at phones, 108mp on new android devices but when you chat quality sucks anyway. Its about camera hardware and how optimised the software is to take advantage of good hardware.

For good managements integrating everything is better. But sometimes what used to be good stopped being so, and red tapes in the hierarchy would drag all the elements together with them down. It could be Catastrophic.
Is Apple still good?

Google is using outdated hardware anyways so its ok. 855 instead of 855+, ufs 2.1, small battery, low ram no 5G.

foxroano9t I’m an Apple guy, but Android phones have problems all across the board. Samsung phones are infested with bloatware to the point they should create a Tizen OS for their phones. OnePlus only makes phones for people with gigantic hands. LG is full of gimmicks. That’s why Apple continues to be the king in the United States.

Samsung should have goggle make their chipsets for now on since Samsung runs on android.

You don’t make sense, Samsung and Google are designing the chips. Samsung is the one who actually makes them, they’re the world’s biggest microchip maker. And the new chip is based off Samsung’s 5nm process. Google doesn’t produce them, they engineer them.

Aaaaea Qualcomm chips ages horribly though, so you can’t get mad at Google and Samsung. Qualcomm knows this and they have no interest of making their chips last longer.

Google has a long way to go before they get to Apple’s level of success in making their own SoC if their phones hardware is anything to go by which leaves a lot to be desired.

Clearly you were not listening. Apple’s A13 for instance, maybe top notch in CPU, but it’s definitely not top of the game in ISP, DMA, NPU, and even the GPU. Apple forces all developers today to use Metal instead of OpenGL. Granted Metal is faster than OpenGL, but Android also supports Vulkan, which is similar in speed to Apple’s Metal. Not to mention most benchmark tests on Android are still using OpenGL instead of Vulkan. Also iOS automatically halts every task you switch from, where as Android doesn’t. That’s why Gary Simms even said all benchmarks should be taken with a grain of salt. As of today even Qualcomms 865 beats Apple’s SoC in lots of areas. Like NPU, ISP, DMA, including the 865 can use the fastest LPDDR5 RAM, which is 28% faster than the LPDDR4 RAM in iPhones today. The 865 NPU operates at 15 TOPS, Apple’s A13 NPU only operates at 6 TOPS.
Plus Google already sells tons of their Edge TPUs, for all kinds of SBCs, cameras, and lots of other things. Google’s Tensorflow is second to none, and it’s already running on over 4 billion devices. Take a look for yourself.

Going the Apple route, good. Apple has the best chips right now and it’s gotten so good that the next chip from Apple (A14X) will be in the MacBook. That’s because they design it so well with the best engineers money can buy. Qualcomm is still behind Apple so I’m sure Google wants to get closer to Apple or even ahead.

I think is an amazing idea. I’m sure the first processors are not going to be as good as an apple chip 13, but imagine a super fast and smooth pixel, iPhone like.

Definitely looking forward to the Pixel 6 generation.
I’ve never owned an android phone but I am now soooo over Apple’s overpriced underwhelming phones. I’m holding out for 5G to become more widely available or my iPhone Xs craps out, whichever comes first, to switch to the Pixel.
