3 hrs of recording is worthless. They should offer reduced price for event-only recording. On-device processing is great. Are these 4k or 2k digital zoom capable cameras? What is a “wireless” doorbell? They all connect thru wifi? Do you mean, it is “only” battery powered? If so, then that’s already a downgrade! Big ‘ole misstep from the big “G” once again. The old hardware just needed better software along with more flexible plans.

Looking forward to the outdoor floodlight camera. I have the doorbell camera and I absolutely love it. Hooked into my Amazon show inside it is a good choice. 👏

Do the new devices have “matter” compatibility?

    • Cassandra Derrick

      August 5, 2021 at 8:30 pm

No they do not. Latest release notes I saw “A couple of things that might be missing for you relates to connectivity, where some countries will lose outdoor 5 GHz WiFi options. Weave is used instead of base Thread, which will likely mean Google keeps this internally connected only to their own products, and that’s been confirmed as of launch day, as Google won’t be supporting the upcoming Matter standard with these new cameras.”

      Matter isn’t scoped for cameras

As someone who had a WIRED Nest Outdoor camera clipped and stolen, people better mount those wireless cameras REAL HIGH or kiss them goodbye. People will steal those just for fun.

It sounds like Google will kill Nest aware soon? If that’s true, what will I do with my 4 nest IQ outdoor cams?

  16. roguegeek

    August 5, 2021 at 6:25 pm

I love the products, but I have no idea how you can trust ANYTHING coming out of Google right now to exist past a couple of years. Chances are so high all this stuff gets tossed into the Google Graveyard.

There are some really unsubstantiated claims here, google’s commitment to security and google’s commitment to privacy. Lets just think about this some more!

    August 5, 2021 at 7:53 pm

Battery operated? Maybe for mounting in a tree, but not a serious solution for security. In theory, Nest will offer some solutions to those who want their cameras powered… I think Nest could have kept their high end IQ cameras and added this consumer line as well.. But they forgot to ask me!!

I hope they come out with an outdoor PoE camera. If they’re serious about security, this is a must.

I just bought into Nest cams about 4 months ago after hearing people rave about them. I was very underwhelmed starting with the nest cam not wanting to pair. I was then disappointed with the app. I couldnt figure out how to save a videoclip on my iPhone, come to find out you cant. Only on iPad. A lot of good the camera does if you cant save the clip for the police. The app is clunky motion alerts are minutes delayed for some reason.

  26. DeeL2003

    August 6, 2021 at 2:57 am

The new doorbell is a downgrade compared to the Nest Hello. They don’t tell you that even if you choose to wire their new doorbell, it will not have 24/7 video recording like the Hello.

I paid about 150.00 for a nest camera but didn’t know it WILL NOT record unless you pay for a monthly subscription, so needless to say I no longer use it. For much less a free 30 day recording, you can’t beat Wyze cameras, a much better deal.

  37. Dew Time

    August 6, 2021 at 4:15 pm

Wait what, why have they all gone wireless? That’s not a good thing at all. Wireless means more maintenance.

    • TheCoreyVlogs

      August 8, 2021 at 1:12 am

…and interference with other devices. You’d better have the bandwidth to support all the wireless usage.

Is there any feature in case all power goes out? Otherwise I assume the system is worthless, say in an events like TX losing power in both winter and summer?

    • Ste McS

      August 7, 2021 at 2:13 am

      The camera is battery powered.

  39. David Ko

    August 6, 2021 at 7:43 pm

Still no 4K picture or video quality? When security is important right now, then why is it still 1080p? Do sending feedbacks to Google even work? It’ll be 2021-2100, or the year 2,500 and Google will still be using 1080p. This is really unfortunate for not having the best products for their customers. It’s better to get a professional security system for your house.

In Europe the doorbell will be retailing €275. That is legal theft. At least it works with 8 VAC. No need to change the transformer to 24 VAC.

  43. Home Tech

    August 6, 2021 at 10:33 pm

Unfortunately the 3 hour event recording is pointless as it means only the the last 3 hours is recorded (what ever events happend between those 3 hours) so a recording at 5pm will have vanished by 8pm. Pointless

    • Ste McS

      August 7, 2021 at 2:38 am

Wrong, all event recordings are saved.

  44. Home Tech

    August 6, 2021 at 10:37 pm

Typically Google though going for last year’s specs, the new cameras still 1080p, they should have been 2k expecially the wired ones, with 2k you can easily see the improvement, expecially in faces at a distance.

  45. Equinox 95

    August 7, 2021 at 1:07 am

Have Google fixed the offline and slow loading issues with the previous cameras. If your looking for home security then be very wary of Google products. Google are under investigation by UK watchdog for spreading fake reviews about……guess…..Google products, including what they claimed the cameras can do.

      August 8, 2021 at 11:01 pm

@TheWilsdon same… its cracked and looks hideous. I bet I can make them replace it for free with the new cam if it has the same 24/7 recording.

Only problem with the new door bell is it’s not able to run 24/7. Would love to upgrade to it since the old one makes everything an event but I need that 24/7 recordings.
