Funny how iPhones seem to do significantly better in drop tests than basically every Android device.

    Very sad for a “flagship”

This is disappointing. I was hoping I didn’t need to buy another screen protector with Victus.

I never drop or use cases on my premium phones. It really comes down to being a responsible adult with how you handle your things. I’m currently rocking the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G 512gb 16ram version. I’m proud of my phone and won’t buy a dated iPhone.

Unless the phone is made entirely out of Saphire crystal; you need a case on any phone made out of glass.
They also need to keep the multi-million dollar cell phone case industry alive.

Anyone buying a phone like this and not putting it in a case is just stupid. And “3, 2, 1..” seriously?

Please ask Samsung why they put double sticker on my brand new s21 ultra box?! Did they used it before sending to customers ? ! Ridiculous …

  18. Catalin Stavaru

    February 2, 2021 at 12:01 am

There should be a law forbidding glass backs on smartphones and tablets, those are only made to milk customers for repair costs and expensive maintenance plans !

That’s a really disappointing result on the first drop for what’s meant to be the newest gorilla glass. And even worse at greater heights. Not very durable at all

For anyone concerned, I have carried only Samsung phones for over a decade now and I have never broken one despite many many drops. Two minutes after I pull the shiny new phone out of the box I put it in a Spigen Tough Armor case. They have never let me down. My current Galaxy S9 looks perfect, but the Tough Armor case it lives in has many battle scars.

People: Drop an iPhone 3 feet and it cracks
CNET: **Drop a Samsung 3 feet and it cracks**

  26. Øystein

    February 2, 2021 at 9:57 am

Just to clear up some missunderstanding: More scratch proof glass = easier to break from a drop. With thin glass like this you have to choose…. Either a easy scratched glass that resist drops very well or the other way around.
I would take the latter… I rarely drop my phone, I have a case and I HATE scratches on my screen..
You should really know these basics, Cnet…. A bit dissapointed.
This is exactly what I expected to happen judging from the knowlage I have about glass..

The time that you waste to write it, is the same to write the age.
Can you anwer the facxking question, sir ?

The next gen high end phones should have plastic backs and also plastic fronts. Problem solved. You’re welcome!

  28. Yogi

    February 2, 2021 at 11:05 am

Glasses are brittle. You drop them on concrete, they break. Where’s the surprise? What’s surprising is that Cnet did not make it a bit more scientific with controlled release etc.

  40. Michelle Topham

    February 2, 2021 at 6:12 pm

Doesn’t everyone have a phone case/phone protector? Why would you care if you drop your phone? I have a $3 rubber phone surround that’s been attached to my phone for about 2 years. Dropped it at least a hundred times from all kinds of heights and it’s still as good as new. So honestly, who cares what happens if you drop it on concrete.

It’s not the phones it’s the so called tough glass

  44. Ferux

    February 2, 2021 at 7:31 pm

Why would you do such a test in a totally non-scientific way? “I’m holding it at hip height” – OK…

  45. Jan de Rochefort

    February 2, 2021 at 8:30 pm

Asking what is wrong with these phones when they were dropped on concrete….

  46. Brendan Powell

    February 2, 2021 at 8:31 pm

My iPhone 11 and 12 pro are awesome 😎 and unbreakable, they would have walked through these tests, which proves the inferiority build of Korean phones

  47. Anthony Reed

    February 3, 2021 at 12:00 am

But everyone says glass is more “premium”! And they want a grand for that? 😂😂😂

  56. Sean Z

Glass is always a bad idea for a mobile phone. Plastic makes more sense.

  57. PhantomRaven

    February 3, 2021 at 6:06 am

I only care about scratch resistance I’m not an idiot I know that a thin layer of glass surrounding A phone is always going to crack when dropped

  58. Andrei

    February 3, 2021 at 7:32 am

I wish they would put plastic screens and a glass screen protector. It would hold to drops and you can change the premium feeling screen protector

  59. josh3326

    February 3, 2021 at 12:35 pm

    What happened to CNET?

  60. Steven Hendershott

    February 3, 2021 at 12:57 pm

Glass is glass. Glass breaks. Curved glass is already weakened on the curve. Anyone who is shocked by this isn’t dealing with reality. It makes me so crazy that people don’t care for their VERY expensive, and generally fragile, daily use tech. That’s why my kids have cheap Moto phones…I know they’re going to abuse them. Who would play tossing and flipping games with a $1200 Gaming PC? Nobody…but a $1200 phone…why not, right?

  61. Crawdaddy

    February 3, 2021 at 3:34 pm

Bruh these phones are terrible in durability

  62. Cancer Called Human Species

    February 3, 2021 at 4:00 pm

Venesa I love you but nothing is wrong with these phones… Its glass which is curved and you people are dropping it on concrete surface…
    What would you expect?

  63. i103772

    February 3, 2021 at 4:39 pm

This woman is so annoying..didn’t even watch the entire video.. did leave a dislike though

  64. Matthew Brown

    February 3, 2021 at 9:19 pm

Ok glass vs concrete the concrete will always win. What I want to know is why on the second drop they dropped the 21s back down but the 21s ultra screen down?

  65. Matty Osborne

    February 3, 2021 at 9:22 pm

When will they stop making the back out of glass

  66. S MURTAZA

    February 3, 2021 at 9:52 pm

Its your bad luck on first drop otgerwise its great with others

  67. Legend Says

    February 3, 2021 at 10:22 pm

Maybe throw the phone in lava for water resistant test or scratch it with a diamond cutting Lazer beam 😑

  68. callio166

    February 3, 2021 at 10:49 pm

There are many drop tests that show the opposite of your video. It never breaks so quickly from such a low altitude

  69. Douglas Smith

    February 4, 2021 at 12:24 am

    Maybe “Victus” isn’t so great?

  70. Rob P

    February 4, 2021 at 2:58 am

    Disappointing results !

  71. alex ivanov

    February 4, 2021 at 3:13 am

Before commenting about how unfair this drop tests is, look at the VERY similar CNET Iphone drop tests. Dude had to get on a ladder (9 feet IIRC) to break them.

  72. Oscar Estrella

    February 4, 2021 at 5:48 am

You need a case on any phone these days, these tests are so stupid.

  73. Joshua Goose
