While many rush to create new realities with AI video tools, creative director Matan Cohen Grumi is focused on reimagining the one we’re already living in. By blending the real and unreal, he shows how everyday photos are transformed into playful, deeply human videos — from inflating office supplies to an alien pizza landing in New Jersey. (Recorded at TED2025 on April 10, 2025)

First 10 seconds and I already knew this would be a waste of time. I know it’s a silly “humorous” montage to break the ice at the beginning of the talk, but the sister’s supposed message wasn’t even from the sister but from the guy’s phone. It checks that someone with such little attention to detail is in favor of GenAI. Also disappointing on TED’s part, but I guess they already know that
Edit for the P.S.: if you want an “enhanced” reality, that’s a great way for a whole depressed, performative, talentless society who suffers from body dysmorphia and needs online validation to make it through the day. Might as well try doing drugs if you want to enhance your reality (without murdering your planet while you’re at it)

The most fascinating part here isn’t just the playfulness – it’s the psychology behind it. when the narrator says ‘fun’, what’s really happening is that your brain starts to play. curiosity simply melts away your rigid thinking. the story isn’t really about ai or the visuals themselves..it’s about taking back control of how you see things. it’s about turning you from a passive consumer into n active creator. and that’s why it hits home. people feeel aspark of life not because the tech is magical, but because it reminds them of that childhood feeling where youu could reshape reality. the emotional truth isn’t in the pixels. it’s in that little permission slip we give ourselves toimagine again

Absolutely loved how Matan turned something as simple as a pizza and a UFO into a metaphor for creativity, joy and the power of technology. The way he remarks that AI isn’t just about making new things — but re-imagining our own stories and letting us step into them is so resonant: ‘What if instead of replacing reality, we honour it?’ His message is a brilliant reminder that the fun, playful side of innovation can also carry depth. Truly inspiring.

You are either his buddy or you got paid for this comment. ‘Honoring reality’ by letting a technology help us make childish, self-indulgent emptiness with no social value? Whose reality is being honored?

Refreshing to see a comment section actually call this garbage out.
TED talks rarely amount to much in the first place, but this probably takes the cake for the most empty, desperate ‘Look at me!’ presentation I’ve seen. There is nothing “deeply human” about this, other than your starvation for attention, Grumi.
