If DNA is just a string of letters, could AI learn to read it … or even write it? Bioengineering researcher Eric Nguyen reveals how AI has upended the rules of biology, potentially creating a future where disease is cured with personalized medicine, extinct species are resurrected (Jurassic Park, anyone?) and microbes designed for Mars make interplanetary life possible. Learn more about how the world’s first AI-designed CRISPR model successfully edited genes — and what it means for our understanding of life itself.

Fortunately if democracy does not remove the crazy leader then age does.

Creating new species of animals sounds crazy 😅

      Almost like ‘playing God’!

So wrong on so many levels is my opinion. We don’t need only the rich, evil or highly educated to survive. Longevity has already been set, don’t play God because humans have never gotten it right.

i can see where this is heading…we are going to create new “human” species..humans with elf or orc or vampire characteristics…that will ultimately fail, war, poverty, hate all that will come and all those poor “new species” will be treated like freaks…and so on and so forth…just like we have seen in countless movies, video games, etc.

Very frightening. Why does “Evo” sound so much like “EVIL”? Changing our DNA is such an out-dated idea. Most of us have outgrown this science-fiction idea that it would improve the world. We learned that there are better ways to improve the world and solve our suffering. Personalised medicine? Think again.

Well this has the potential to irreparably damage the world. Kind of psyched for a wooly mammoth though

I love how he references Jurassic Park as a point of leverage for the idea, completely glossing over the fact that Michael Crichton wrote that series as a cautionary tale against this very concept. Jesus, take the wheel. 🙃

Compare his utopian perspective to the more grounded why files version. One that’s based on facts and history. Crisper is dangerous. Extremely dangerous

Immagine this AI ending up creating a T-Rex that grows to maturity in minutes and self reproduce while doing so.

    “Sorry, let me try again”😂

You need energy and materials to change an organism, what you described would literally catch on fire or starve in seconds.

    • @gheorghitacristea5750

      December 20, 2025 at 5:19 am

@user-qy4lp8wp5c I agree, the analogy with T Rex is not appropriate 😂
In any case, I believe we shouldn’t assume to know something is not true just because we haven’t seen it before. Furthermore, physics allows for all sorts of crazy stuff

New viruses, new bacteria and nasty things we never imagined, and then giving this power to a bully like Trump, Putin and Netanyahu.

Any innovation (fire, knives, vaccines, nuclead energy etc.) can be used for good or evil puposes. It is not about the innovation, it is about OUR integrity and morality. So it is up to us to have that discussion, not to ignore it or wishing it away.

  32. @Jabersson

    December 19, 2025 at 4:15 am

And before anyone hits us with the “you’re just upset cuz this is the future”, do you seriously think we’re gonna use this technology better than we have ANY other? What does personalizing DNA do to change society, except to further divide us and give us more things to fight over?

Creating wholly mammoths is one thing but creating something “alien” is completely a different thing xD

That last question I think is where we go a bit too far. Speaking as an Atheist, I don’t think we should allow ourselves to play God and create life.
