My sony earbuds where the first step to wireless and now i got the wh-1000mx3. but I still have a few wired earbuds just in case I feel like I dont want to drain there battery. Also while space in a phone is important the only reason companies don’t want to put a headphone jack on their phones is because it would conflict with them selling you wireless earbuds

None yet, my Sony MX3s still include the ability to use them wired. Also, wired is good for gaming with the PS4/5 and Xbox One/SX only allowing wired audio through the controller. Wireless just isn’t as ubiquitous yet. That said, I’m wireless 90% of the time.

I use both and I’m about to do a motorcycle ride with friends. I wear wired headphones under my helmet for music (because they fit under my helmet, and the sound is much better than the speakers you can install in a helmet).

I respect the video however, personally i use both wireless headphones and wired. I have Bose qc 35 iis and wireless buds , however I still love my Studio grade expensive headphones that cost over $1000 wireless doesnt beat those. Audio technicas. Imo. Also headphone jacks dont affect water proofing. Many water proof phones have headphone jacks like the S10+. I use both wireless and studio headphones wireless are really good now adays however just doesnt compare to studio headphones. When im at the gym or going mobile i use wireless , when im more stationary i use my studio headphones

“Do phones still NEED the headphone jack?”

      Short answer: YES

Long answer: YEASSS, because for wireless headphones/earphones, no matter how much you are paying and which brand you’re buying (Sony, Apple, Bose, etc.), they will always be inferior to wired headphones/earphones in the following aspects:
      1. Latency (especially noticable for gaming)
      2. Sound quality (due to lossy wireless codecs, this is particularly worse for the Apple/Beats ones as they don’t support HD codecs like aptX or LDAC)
      3. Bang for the buck, amount of model choices (wired >>> wireless)
      4. Battery life and battery health problems, becomes garbage when the battery dies (wired = no problem)
      5. Bluetooth connection stability and codec compatibility issues (again, not a problem for wired)

The only thing wireless ones beats wired ones, is convenience (and only under certain scenarios). Oh, did I mention you can still use wireless headphones/earphones when you already have a headphone jack?

  7. Nazree Nazree

    July 31, 2021 at 10:43 pm

what is wrong for having the option to choose?
    .
i prefer phones that are offering options for users to choose even i might not use it at all… that is why i prefer phones that are giving fingerprint unlock option than the “one” that don’t…
    .
so the word here is OPTION for users to choose… and not being forced to accept whatever the manufacturers think good on behalf of users…

I like wireless earbuds which are connected to each other with a cable. No tangling, no losing, and it can have a larger batter in the middle. However I still like wires headphones. My biggest issue with losing 3.5mm audio jack is that replacement is not standard. iPhone uses a different jack, MacBook uses a different one. I need 2 different headphones. I wish all were replaced by USB-c. But then a new USB jack will come and old headphones will be obsolete again. So waste of money having non-standard jacks.

  17. Hayley Harrison

    July 31, 2021 at 11:59 pm

For phones I really don’t care about it. They’re mobile devices and even if I could get past the inconvenience of the mobile HiFi setup, I can’t really give the required attention to care about the gains in quality while I’m on the go. Wired listening and the benefits of it are only interesting to me when stationary at work or at home, where I can really focus on and appreciate the quality and for editing the low latency. As long as the Mac/PC has an audio jack, I’m good.

  21. Kian Mahon

    August 1, 2021 at 12:59 am

Considering it’s for the most part only mobile phones dropping the headphone jack, it’s annoying. I can use my headphones with my laptop, pc, ps4 etc, but not my phone? It’s not time to cut the headphone jack. It’s time to give phone manufacturers more grief until they add it back.

So what do I do if my favorite, high quality, headphones, don’t have a wireless version?

  29. zero11010

    August 1, 2021 at 2:24 pm

I’m about to do a motorcycle ride with friends. I use headphones for music under my helmet (they sound better than the speakers you can get in a helmet). And the headphones that fit under a helmet and in your ears are wired headphones. So, I use an adapter (because modern phones don’t have the jack anymore) and cannot charge my phone while listening to music.

The inability to charge while listening to music becomes an issue on longer rides.

In the Bay Area people will steal Bluetooth headphones off your head and run. That doesn’t happen with wired headphones because they are attached. You see this on BART trains and just on the street.

Companies need to stop telling people what they want and start listening to what people say they want. I actually don’t know anybody who wants the headphone jack to be gone. Wanting to use wireless phones or buds is not the same as wanting the jack to be removed. The Jack served a whole bunch of purposes for a whole bunch of people and I’m sorry you aren’t one of them! I will say again it is time for companies to stop telling consumers what they want and start listening to what they want or even asking or even caring!

I recently bought a pair of Google Pixel Buds A Series earbuds and I am really crazy about them. I am a huge Google fanatic and this made it a no brainer (I also briefly had the Pixel Buds 2 but they stunk.) The one and only reason I still prefer to have a headphone jack is for FM Radio. My Motorola android smartphone has an FM Radio built right in and it doesn’t use data, WiFi, or battery as the chip is built into the phone and you need a wired headset to act as the antenna. Thanks to the EBB, I have unlimited data on my phone and use my Pixel Buds A for most uses. I do know that a few local radio stations near me play Christmas music in November and December and what I am gonna start doing going forward is to go to Walmart in November and buy a $5 wired headset, use it just those two months and then throw it away when I’m done with it.

Apple made more money selling AirPods than all of Nvidia. But that’s not even the best part, they were able to convince most people that it’s stupid to want a headphone jack while simultaneously increasing the price of their phones. 👏👏👏 Never underestimate the stupidity of consumers. Apple didn’t.

I have a Creative headphone that I bought back in 2012. It still works to this day. It’s wired of course, and I doubt any ‘innovative’ company can make me a wireless earphone/headphone that lasts almost 9 years and still counting. Maybe the hardware will last, but the batteries will certainly not. Also, even though these things have fast charging, last long on a single charge or whatever, not having to charge my headphones even once for 9 years is still way better than having to charge it once a week or something.

  59. Arjun Ambarnath

I predominantly used bluetooth before the vanishing of the jack, but there are still many situations where I would rather have the jack. All getting rid of the jack got us was losing options. I use AirPods myself, but needing to keep an extra device to charge on me gets old. Hardwired has a level of plug and play that wireless will never have.

I’m all for innovation and moving on but there’s a reason why the headphone jack had survived all these years. It just works. If people are going to use wireless listening, go for it. There are amazing choices out there. But let it be a choice. Instead of the force feeding that Apple did to us.

The fact that other manufacturers have followed suit is not necessarily testament to the wisdom of the decision to remove the headphone jack, but rather a trend amongst consumer electronics companies to follow trends set by Apple. They see how much money Apple is making from selling AirPods, of course they’ll follow. Let’s not forget how many Android phone started to feature notches after the iPhone X , even when it served no functional purpose for those Android devices.

Wireless earbuds are also easy to lose.

Last, wireless tech is now more accessible – in the developed world. What about the developing countries where the likes of Apple are trying to win over their next billion users/customers. In such places, wireless tech is still out of reach.

I’m kind of alright with phones not necessarily having headphone jacks (even though I would ALWAYS prefer it to be there) but removing head phone jacks from Tablets like tab S7 is annoying seeing as those devices are meant to be used mostly stationary (you wouldn’t walk around or work out with a tablet) so not having that jack there and having to worry about the battery meager battery life of most wireless buds, they almost never last long enough if I’m having a long work day with the tab.

Let me say it. Except for workouts, we don’t need to definitely have wireless in other scenarios. Bluetooth comes with its own problems. We need to charge them and there is lag (always).
Type-c is trash when it comes to headphones support. Bluetooth earphones can be an option but it’s always better to fall back to wired (either headphone jack or improved support on type-c).

Wireless when I prefer convenience and wired when I want to sit down and really enjoy the music, It’s about 50%/50% use between the two

Sony MDR for nearly 4 years. Until it broke on me. Very reliable quality build and sound.

The fact that you have 1 less gadget to charge in this era where you have to charge or plug into power lots of other gadgets makes it worth while. It’s wired headsets for me.

With my LG v60, I have the choose of going wired or wireless. My earbuds and headphones have a replaceable cable, so if they break no problem. The DT 770 pro have the cable attached, but its has Ben holding up. I use btr5 as BT adapter for my wire headphones or a PC DAC. My TWS are the OG galaxy buds, which are meh in sound quality. Are newer tws any better in sound

I use wireless headphones constantly. Even though I’m with the wireless gang, this video is too cringy and attacks the entire tech community for no reason. The reality of it is that wired soultions are still useful, especially in situations where recharging isn’t available like during blackouts.

Many people cannot afford wireless headphones and earbuds.
Since when is privileged drivel acceptable?
