i wonder if wired would, in this day and age, have a video like this featuring only males…. and yet it doesn’t even warrant a thought that manifesting this kind of actual, literal double-standard is not an issue.
really makes you wonder if the end goal is equality… or compensatory and vindictive counter discrimination. well… it makes some people wonder. answer’s pretty clear to me.

The Grad lady seems very smart and skilled and is charming but please ladies, STOP talking this way it’s unbearable. Your natural voice is just 100% fine as it is, no need to try speaking on a lower tone than where it would naturally be, and ending up with this awful “frying” tone. Enough of this trendy habit of “vocal fry”. Seriously, enough of that. Please and Cheers !

Honestly, I’m happy that you brought in women for these discussions. For such a male dominant field, there are lot of outstanding women who also have made headway in the field. It could also inspire girls to get into programming or math something was less appealing to them before.

As a new professor of computer science focusing on ML, I’ve been waiting for this one.
EDIT: And I’m disappointed. I was hoping for a core ML researcher, not an applied one with majority of pubs in conferences like KDD. This is apparent in the conversation where they talk about applications, rather than ML. And I think the line where Claudia mentions the truly difficult part is not actually ML. I would have loved to see a discussion on current gaps in our knowledge, etc, compared to this ‘business’ side of ML.

Here is good explanation for people who didn’t understood the concept:
Basically we show computers bunch of patterns, like pics of dogs and cats, they are labelled as dogs and cats so computers know how dog and cat are different. Then, after certain time of training, we give them unlabeled pics and they should guess which one is dog and which one is cat.
Ez, just put anything you want instead of dogs and cats and thats the machine learning. Thats how your camera can put rectangle on your face because it has been trained on human faces so it knows what patterns to look up to detect one.

We can improve machine learning algorithms in terms of neural networks by studying the brain deeper. Since the brain is more than a network of neurons.
It has specific structures, introducing these structures to the neural networks, it makes it more verbose with up to 100 times improvement.
If you’re interested look up Thousand Brains Theory and their machine learning algorithm they released

I is really interesting that 4th lvl was totally ununderstandable because of complexity of terms. But what’s suprising on level 5th- the most complex – it actually is understandable, but experts do not talk about terms, but problem it brings to the world and how we could solve it, utilize it and make safe for humans. Beautiful.

“new things that they haven’t seen before”. This is why we’re stagnant. We think we need automated cars to have robotics in our lives. A robot to clean your kitchen would be orders of magnitudes easier to program because it completely avoids the problem of building AI that can adapt to “new things they haven’t seen before”. With her “we we we” . . . sounds like she’s the spokesperson.
