I love these videos! I just want a good TV for console gaming and don’t want to spend an arm and a leg

Every single person I know who has an LG TV with one of those wiimote style controllers HATES it. First thing they do is disable the pointer. That thing is a nightmare if you have cats.

    I can’t afford any 🌚

I love geeking out on this stuff, but I’m really just leaning UST protector at this point. I can look past stunning OLED contrast for some extra size. It’d be really cool once manufacturers start integrating ambient lighting on the backs too.

Sony for the SOUND and reliability.

I almost bought the LG C1. But opted for the Hisense U8G at half the cost. When doing research it seemed that I’d get like 85-90% of the image quality for half the cost and I’m happy with it but I still have the nagging voice that says, “you cheaped out man, should have just got the best”

    • AbrahamZX1

      December 27, 2021 at 5:13 pm

Got a cheaper tv myself and returned it for the LG C1. Before that I had an LG B9 and once you go OLED… Also it’s the best tv line for gaming.

  7. Lynn Snyder

    December 27, 2021 at 4:23 pm

Not questioning your choice as I have a LG C1 which I purchased this year. Did you test any of the Sony OLED’s this year?

    • Saif Ahmed

      December 27, 2021 at 7:01 pm

I’m pretty much sure he didn’t 🙂 or even if he did I’m kinda sure the pricing was the main concern for Sony OLEDs…
But 9/10 times Sony OLEDs will give you a better picture ♥️

Haven’t owned a newer TV since the 25″ console…50+ yrs…now retired in my 70’s…what’s an illiterate technology guy best to acquire, simple remote, not using any cable, satellite dish or computer…never played or use games…no interest…may watch some gifted DVD’s. Open to prices for great picture…what’s next technological breakthrough to look forward to in 2022?

No mention about Sony or Samsung 🙃🤔

  11. K T

    December 27, 2021 at 5:12 pm

Personally I’d go for the SONY A80J over the C1. They use the same panel but Sonys image processing is superior. Sony also reduced prices to match LG so it’s a no brainer!

    • L8Knight

      December 27, 2021 at 8:09 pm

Unless you want the game modes from LG, which is why most people go to the C1 and its unmatched.

    • Ray Reece

      December 27, 2021 at 8:30 pm

Did they add variable frame rate to Sony via updates yet? The C1 had it out of the box.

I bought a Samsung Q70a and absolutely love it. Stunning picture and it’s incredibly thin. I really like the UI and ultimately, could not be happier with my purchase.

    • Jheat23

      December 27, 2021 at 10:44 pm

How much was it and where did you buy it from?

    • Carlos Planchart

      December 28, 2021 at 1:37 am

@Jheat23 i bought it straight from Samsung and i think it was close to $1200. I applied and thankfully got financing which is like $30/month for 3 yrs and at the price for me, it thought it was worth it. Hope this helps

Total TCl fan boys best buy just took many of this years tcls off there shelve because they have so many issues.. but you are recommending them for best budget? their junk! Didn’t even mention Samsung Q90R or hisense UHG? Don’t quit your day jobs.

  16. Lander boy

    December 27, 2021 at 6:47 pm

Will someone talk about burn in oled! Lol even my phone has a burn marks

    • Ray Reece

      December 27, 2021 at 8:31 pm

TV manufacturers have added a lot of ways to avoid it like pixel shifting. Shouldn’t be an issue except in extreme cases now.

    • Lander boy

      December 27, 2021 at 9:14 pm

@Ray Reece you are right about that. But that is only the top shelf tvs. Not the oleds one’s that mostly sell. They are a few more year’s away from fixing the problem completely.

Brian, why isn’t Sony ever considered in the OLED TVs?

  21. David Cole

    December 27, 2021 at 10:26 pm

Picked up Sony A80J 65″ OLED and it has one of the best Pictures Qualities you can get. If you are Gamer Look at LG C1

  22. David Cole

    December 27, 2021 at 10:29 pm

For Budget TV they should have looked at Hisense U6G. Better Picture Quality and has Android TV. ROKU is a locked Down OS

  23. Iamsteezze

    December 27, 2021 at 10:39 pm

A huge editorial tech site like CNET can’t tell the difference between TVs and TV’s

  24. Venka Dx

    December 27, 2021 at 10:44 pm

Better to rename it to Lg C1 mini review

  26. daveinstlouis

How about reliability? Is one brand better overall than another? Are these TV’s going to last 5 …10 years without breaking down? Not everyone can afford a new TV every couple years.

  27. John Latham

    December 28, 2021 at 3:10 am

Did CNET not test any Sony OLEDs? The A80J and A90J definitely have a better overall picture out of the box in my opinion (and many other’s). Go walk into a Best Buy and see for yourself. The A80J is a little more expensive than a C1 but not by much… LG is great too don’t get me wrong, but not even mentioning Sony for best picture quality? LG has legitimate competition out there worth mentioning. Just saying

  28. Brad Powell

    December 28, 2021 at 4:12 am

C1 is a great set and the A80J is arguably better especially if gaming isn’t a priority.

    • Mohammed Medhat

      December 28, 2021 at 4:53 am

No even Gaming is’nt your priority the A80j has very bad motion especially the action movies and that inclod A90j i mean every sony tv has this issue

  33. Danny V

    December 28, 2021 at 9:48 pm

I highly recommend the Sony A80J for any Non Gamer and Android User. This TV also includes Next Gen 3.0 internal Digital Tuner that accesses all available and upcoming Digital over the to air Broadcast channels without an antenna. The live tv tab automatically intergrates Live Tv but also Intergrates Pluto Tv (Now with over 300 Free Channels) but also Intergrates other Live Tv streaming services (in my case SlingTV ) .

What about the hisense u8g tv?
What do you think about that ine.
It seems like hisense is stepping up with their television sets

The best remote is Sony oled remotes. Keep it simple, with premium materials and elegant design. Remotes should be kept simple, not like lg’s nitendo wii style wand remote which is just inconvenient and hard to use, and samsung’s minimalistic remotes are the worst cos there’s no numbers and many other important buttons are missing which is just abysmal, very inconvenient and hard to use. Well done Sony!

  45. KD9

Well, this guy only picks oleds, so if you’ve got a bright room you’re screwed, whatever.

Either Samsung, and/or LG tvs are the best.

I have personally tested in many stores, Sony’s (a80j/a90j) picture quality is way better than LG

What is this massive love affair for roku? I find Amazon fire tv platform pretty good as it auto installed IMDb tv on it and recommended person of interest to me which I haven’t been able to find on any uk tv channel or streaming service for free. I like how it does recommend shows etc. I find it have a tendency to want its own platforms for search or recommendations and it’s not the cleanest interface however I’m growing more fond of fire tv. Iv used roku and didn’t find it that great tbh.

LG Fanboys spotted… LOL………. Sony has the best picture quality this year 2021… LG is really good, but Sony is better prooven by so many reviews and they won BEST TV 2021….

    • tracer073

      January 2, 2022 at 8:49 pm

They fuckd up though by not having premium gaming features and more hdmi port, I’m dumb founded how a company that makes the PS5 and a one of the biggest premium tv company, doesn’t have all the latest gaming features on there tv even brands like hisense has it. That’s why most people buying the c1 a lot of gamers out there. Sony could have had huge profits with these oleds but every one buying the lgs.

  52. Cruzan9

    January 2, 2022 at 7:43 pm

LG C1 is less expensive than Sony A90J from what I’ve seen. For that reason alone I decided on the LG. I will be getting it in a few weeks.
