No mention of the mass pollination of crops by alfalfa leafcutter bees? Or the conspecific competition between (non-native) honeybees and native bee species in North America? What about the transformation of agriculture via honeybees as part of colonization by settlers? As well as no criticism of the unsustainable way we have designed a food system to depend on honeybees alone. Not particularly informative.

We used to raise bees until we had wax worms and Colony Collapse and lost about 20 hives. The bees never stung my dad, but they hated me I had to use the smoker. He never used a hood or gloves. I think that they recognized his personal odor.

As a kid, I found a field in the woods with beehives on it, of course I was scared of the bees, but I was also intrested, at one of my visits to the field, I met the beekeeper, talked to him and he explained that at that field there was lots of a certain flower that gave a great taste to the honey, he asked me where I lived, and after that mysterious jars of honey started to appear in out mailbox for years after that, and it was a great tasting honey…

Everyone, her videos are not safe. She always smokes the bees always before she handles them. They are not as docile as she pretends they are. Do not walk to to a hive and put your hand in there as she does or you will get stung, please! She’s a great beekeeper but do not follow what she does on her videos. These are the words of my neighbor who keeps an apiary on the rooftop of our building. Please don’t follow her videos

This woman is not human, she is a clearly a bunch of bees in a human suit.

Anyway, can someone tell me why vegans are against honey? It seems to me that farming bees is a good thing to help the environment and they’re going to make honey anyway without our influence.

Very informative and interesting although saying bees will not sting you for no reason is CAP. you can say it’s because you are “too close to a hive or they feel threatened” which is fair, but like she said these are like wild animals and wild animals sometimes just attack. you don’t know why it just happens.

  299. Will he heck as like

    September 13, 2021 at 9:43 am

Bees recognize human faces? NO. They do not recognize as such, they briefly recognize and differentiate between shape and pattern e.g. 4x different potatoes or 4 kinds of lettuce. They do not recognize a face as humans recognize a face.

Carry a spare queen around? NO what a silly idea. Upon checking a hive if you cannot find the queen there are a number of options available. The first one is to put a frame of drawn comb plus new eggs into the hive. If the bees draw out queen cells there was no queen. If they do not draw out queen cells then, there is a queen in that hive -somewhere.

Strictly speaking a smoker does NOT calm bees. Two things happen…
    1)
The principal purpose of a smoker is to simulate a forest fire ( bees are woodland creatures). The bees hunker down and they gorge on honey in case they have to leave the hive.
    2)
Alarm signals are given out (pheromones) regarding the fire and potential for other creatures to attack the hive. The smoke tends to interfere with the transmission of those alarm signals.

So, while local honey cannot help with allergies by desensitization as mentioned by Erika, that isn’t to say honey aiding with allergies is a myth. There are studies actually showing that honey (typically unprocessed/raw honey) can function as a mast cell stabilizer, which is a substance that lessens the amount of allergic and inflammatory mediators a mast cell releases. Mast cells are core immune cells and responsible for allergies (and many other things). When IgE binds to a mast cell, the cell releases histamine and other inflammatory, allergic mediators. Mast cell stabilizers reduce the amount of histamine and other mediators released by the mast cell, and thus can lessen allergies. That said like any other substance, bodies react to the same substance or medication in very different ways, but statistically honey does seem to downregulate mast cells and reduce histamine response, minimizing symptoms of hay fever allergies.

I have no idea if Erika or wired will see this, but I have a mast cell disorder as part of my genetic disease and love the research on mast cell disorder treatments and other research. This video on the truth about bees and beekeeping was great 🙂

And keep an Epi Pen! Something beekeepers don’t mention is that even if you are used to it and get stung all the time, it’s a phenomenon to suddenly develop a severe allergy to bee stings after repeated exposure. Epinephrine is a very important thing to have at all times while working, or you risk anaphylactic shock and death. It’s expensive to keep a stock, but very necessary.

  361. Remote Viewing

    September 18, 2021 at 4:42 pm

Please stop bee keeping!!! Honey bees are causing serious decline in other varieties which is the real bee problem! Farmers have way less crops now becuase of this and we are producing way less food now becuase of honey bees!! Educate yourselves!!

  362. Remote Viewing

    September 18, 2021 at 4:45 pm

You are the perfect example of a toxic positive person. You try to portray yourself as a sweet person but you are soo fake. Honey never should have been produced in such mass quantities! Nothing ever produced in mass quantities is good for the environment like essential oils. You are literally helping to create a huge food shortage and future generations will suffer for your ignorance and greed.
