Apple has slow-walked the release of immersive video for its Vision Pro headset. Bloomberg’s Consumer Tech Editor Mark Gurman says this is unlikely to change before the release of Apple’s next version of the headset. He joins “Bloomberg Tech” to talk about why sales of headsets are down and what the company is planning next.

It’s simply the price. Developers know that very few consumers will pay $3,500 for this device so they have little to no incentive to create apps for the Vision Pro.

NO it’s not that’s just a silly exaggeration! The price isn’t meant to be afforded by everyone it’s meant to be niche. FFS even the Apple Pro Display is so much higher & if you upgrade a MacBook Pro with ram and HDD it easily comes close to 3500 already.

Apple products have a high resale value. Keep yours in new condition and sell it when the new version comes out.

Let’s get one thing clear, If Jobs was alive to see the Vision Pro, he would absolutely HATE everything about it. It’s clunky, ugly, doesn’t solve real life needs, he would not have released until it looked like the Meta glasses but with the Vision pro compute power

Another example of a product launching way earlier than it should on a consumer level. Nobody is spending $3.5K on this device. Just to watch movies and do whatever work they would do on a computer.

in Silicon Valley, this is actually the most successful strategy…release for niche market with very high price, then to next version as a little cheaper since extrusion dies etc are already paid for in the version 1 so no additional cost now, then next version is for the masses with affordable price and other things are solved already

2 major reasons.
1. The device is inconvenient to use. It’s heavy and it’s not easy to share. There’s no profiles where the headset recognizes your face and automatically readjust the eye tracking.
2. Apple is nickel and diming this product with developers. A usb c cable that connects the device to the mac cost like $300 and doesn’t come included with the device. The device is already expensive and they make it even more expensive to build apps for.

I think they’re stuck because they wanted to market the Vision Pro as If it’s a business / workspace oriented headset and this was clearly a mistake because I doubt very many ppl even the ones who can afford it, actually want to use it for those purposes. Most ppl want hi res gaming and hi def cinema on vr headsets, not work and productivity applications.
At this point, they’re treating this product basically like a test case to gauge consumer interest and feedback for future releases.

The only thing better about the Quest 3 is the price. You can buy seven Quest 3 headsets for the price of a single Vision Pro. Everything else on the Vision Pro is better.

Apple should have sold this as a developer device, so developers can create the apps that we’ll all be using in a few years. They could have given their top developers free units.
