Apple’s HomePod Mini takes on the best of the smallest from Amazon and Google
The entry-level smart speakers from Apple, Amazon and Google each make for a good smart home starting point. We pit them head to head to head to find out which one is the best for your household. We compare sound quality, smart home capabilities, general knowledge, extras and value. The hardware is important, but you’re…

I’m surprised by the questions test. I have a HomePod mini, and I don’t feel like Siri is that dumb.

You must have not used Alexa and Google then. It’s not even a contest. Suri is a very distant third.

They definitely made Siri dumber than she is here. She’s definitely not the smartest but this video is not very truthful. If you ask Siri how far away the sun is she shows you the results accurately on the iPhone/iPad but describes the sun vocally. Siri is more embedded into an ecosystem than the other two so looking at Siri as a stand alone device is half baked at best. Again, not full depicted in the video.

So if you ask “how far away is the sun” to Siri, she gives that bad answer. However if you ask “how far apart are the sun and the earth” she gets it right.

This is so silly. Why does it matter if they’re all “entry level”? If Amazon released a $10 echo, would you still compare it to the the $100 HP mini? The only comparison that makes sense is price

Haha, why don’t they do the “sound tests” with frequency equipment?? I’m sitting here listening to the music play through the speaker on my iPad!…I can’t hear what the actual speakers sound like!

If im honest, I don’t think i’d ask a smart speaker those things. Unless I’m just used to using Siri but whenever I go to use a smart speaker it’s usually for things “To do” not asking it questions. Like to play music, turn the lights on/off. Whenever I have a question I usually just google it myself.

We have 1 Google Home and 3 Google/Nest Mini’s – one of the mini’s randomly “factory resets” every 2-14 days. Long threads on Googles forums about this, thousands of others with the same problem, and they won’t fix it.

I’m going with the HomePod Mini. Siri is definitely not the best, but when it comes to ecosystem and integration with my iPhone I think it does what I need it to do. Very rarely do I ask these assistants these types of questions (at least not yet). It’s usually command questions: turn on/off the lights, add an item to the list, play music etc. Siri does just fine with that. So given the better audio, I think HomePod Mini will do just fine.

The Nest Audio sounds much better than the Homepod Mini. It sounds cleaner and louder. The Homepod Mini sounds muffled in comparison.

How’s HomePod mini a winner at all? For sound maybe (Echo Dot ain’t far behind). But for every other category it’s beat. As always CNET skewed to Apple.

I really dislike how YouTubers play music and have a mic record them to compare music sound quality. It literally doesn’t do anything apart from comparing which speaker has louder volume at a specific percentage. Volume is NOT quality…

Although I own Apple everything I do have one of those Google Nest things because Google gave it to me for free. Siri is still dumb as rocks but I am hopeful things will change since I’m finally using Apple Maps with a fair degree of confidence now when once I swore that I could never do that. Hopefully Siri I will get upgraded soon.
